He should at least be offered the opportunity to repair the damage himself, after all it did look like an accident.

I probably should have put laugh at the end of my post.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy says it was an accident and doesn't end up paying for it.

That could have been parked in a parent+child space and that could also explain why the dad felt the need to key it.
Thank you for correctly using "could have".

Would be such a shame if his name and pic appeared all over the internet...

Kids are carrying guns and knives in hackney on a daily basis, but everyone is going mad about a car being damaged just because it was expensive and caught on video.
Unfortunately the police won't intervene in this situation because it involves guns, knives and kids, so will be classed as 'dangerous' and they don't do danger anymore which is pretty pathetic. In the olden day the police were out walking on the streets talking to the locals, learning who the villains were, and genuinely out there to catch the burglars, nowadays they are there to justify their existence huddled behind their CCTV cameras in air-conditioned rooms and targeting long dead pervs, rather than actually stopping actual crimes. They now seem far more content with recording events after they have happened, rather than preventing them from happening in the first place.

We tend to forget that the modern day police force seems to exist to boost it's government funding, rather than to actually reduce and prevent crime.
I don't think it has anything to do with the police but the courts. The courts have no interest in prosecuting so it would be madness for the police to waste valuable time on such a matter.

If the courts implemented proper deterants for these types of incidents then it is pretty obvious that the police would then be able to do their job.

Blaming the police is silly.

No, and especially not younger ones if they've been eating chocolate or ice creams, though digestive biscuits are allowed lick

Perhaps I was being a little bit sarcastic and a little harsh with my comments. But hey, if the police only visit homes with even numbers that have been burgled they should expect some sarcastic comments to be made.

As for the UK court system, it's nowhere near perfect, but it's still better than many other countries have in the world.

As to this guy who deliberately keyed the Aston, I do wonder whether he owns something in his life that he takes a great pride in?

Out if interest, what would the charges be? Criminal damage?
Indeed, and since it's apparently above the £5000 threshold it means the starting point should be a custodial sentence.

That's what I'd seen too, I'll be amazed if it comes out that way.... unless the chap has a colourful past.

Despite the username I no longer live in Hackney but seriously there's some really nice parts, honest.
I used to live in a lovely house, no idea what it's worth now but it was a lovely 5 bed terrace. Yes there's scrotes about and some not so nice areas but they're easy to avoid.

There's cheaper houses in Tottenham bit of course there are it's much further out and isn't 10 minutes from the city.

Regardless of criminal prosecution, could the owner not go for a civil action, essentially damages equal to the insurance premium hike they'll face for the next 3-5 years or at least their excess for the claim?

I suppose the best we can hope for is that the Aston belonged to a Yardie drug baron ?punch
