The V10 M6, with a shouty exhaust, might be exactly what you're looking for. While it's a bit lardier than an S2000, that engine with 500bhp more than makes up for the extra weight. Plus, it's a bloody nice place to spend your time when you're not thrashing the pants off it. £20k would seem to buy a decent one too.
Does a V10 M6 need a shoutier exhaust...?truck71 said:

As I did with my Tuscan, the fact is though that to be relied on as an every day commute they don't work, you still need access to another car, because they do go wrong but more importantly service intervals are close together and your typical TVR specialist will need the car for a couple of days
We'll agree to disagree I think re reliability, service intervals are costly yes. As for time at the dealer, don't think this would be an issue. Get it booked for a Saturday morning and make it clear you want it back at the end of the day, all will be well. Straight six used to look after my tuscan and it was entirely painless.absolutly adore the noise of the v10. However the m5/m6 is a step in the wrong direction.
Flavour of the day for me is the noble M12.
That could be just the ticket. 1000 kg 350 bhp v6 supposed amazing steering feel and british!
Shame they were not just a little cheaper
Perhaps VX220 i can also investigate today.
Cayman S apparantly isnt that great on track due to oil starvation issues. But general consensus is it is more driver focus/enjoyable than the m3.
Todays research then
M12 - Love the "race car" style and apparently fast and involving
Tuscan - Potentially constant problems
VX220 - Too impractical for daily usage?
Cayman S - Perhaps just too slow / not good enough for track - but would be good on the drive to track
S2000 - cheap, light, perhaps numb on the steering? perhaps lack of power but would be economic at least
Cerbera - ?

Having said that I do love mine, and it's a great mix of commuting and hooning, stuck in traffic? Roof down, decent mpg. Road opens up ahead? 9000rpm and away.
Plus for your budget you could buy an absolute minter, and safe in the knowledge it's fairly unlikely to go pop or devalue much too.
For performance I think it's definitely speedy/fun enough for your generic B road blasts and sliproads but would definitely recommend you at least test one.
Note I am of course biased to the max. Vtec yo etc etc.

I used a supercharged Exige for commuting for a year (mostly A-roads) - it was a joy.
Cost me nothing to service, was low tax, sold for more than I bought it.
Miss it every day.
If you are thinking VX220 then you should also check out the Loti - it's the same car.
For your budget I would strongly favour the 111R which is an NA Exige in ladies clothes.
What's the reliability like on a Noble?
