Bit like the Toyota Century - that has only been updated twice since 1967 - the last update was 1997 and it has received very little updates for nearly 20 years! Looks like you can get a new one for £67,000.

And I hope they don't change it either. For those that haven't seen it, check-out the front seat design: Too cool for school. smokin

You also get a lovely quad-cam v12 smile

yes

Re. the Cruiser; as Toyota can't even sell enough "real" off-roaders to justify marketing them here, it's no wonder the Australians etc. mercilessly take the piss out of us Brits. At least we have the Defe...oh, wait.

I never understood why they didn't sell the FJ cruiser here.

Why would you buy a 5/6 year old Land Cruiser when the swanky new Range Rover is only 2 years old..
Because you want to get where you are going

and be able to do so repeatedly for many years.

The real question is why do people keep buying Land Rover products when, without exception, they are unreliable.

(I know the answer, marketing / image and they look good)

I can think of no reason why a sane welly wearing country type would walk past a new Disco to spank £65k on one of these.

Many LR/RR owners I've spoken to have found theirs utterly dependable, unlike the German opposition - and some have had some very bad experiences in Land Cruisers and the like...

Then they ought to tell the reliability surveys.

Because the ones that reported to them, say the opposite.

The same surveys which put Jaguar right near the top? I treat those as the bullst they are.

A chap around here has one, he's on his third IIRC since I have been around these parts. It spend most of it's life pulling a 3 axle trailer with either high density bales on the back or various large pieces of farm machinery. Legislation is probably the limiting factor on what he pulls with it.

Here's what I posted on one of our LR Forums when one member was considering swapping his LS400 for a Discovery 2:

"In the interest of full disclosure, you'd be going from something with legendary reliability to something that's very high maintenance. - D2s are one of those cars that get under your skin, whether we're talking about the affinity you'll feel towards them once you've caught "the bug" to the inevitable skinned knuckles, oil and dirt under your nails from dealing with their "foibles". If you haven't the time or inclination for that sort of thing, you're almost certainly better-off with a Land Cruiser but if you want something with character, the feeling of driving a D2 knocks most other 4x4s into a cocked hat IMHO. cool

How does that sound?"

- He subsequently bought a D2. smile

Well, that just proves that surveys are BS, any two will say completely different things about each brand, different expectations from buyers etc. Personally, I buy a car on how it looks and drives, not how reliable it's going to be, which is why I drive 90s BMWs rather than a bloody Toyota Auris.

90's BMWs are renowned for being reliable.

I've run 3 TVRs and can confirm that they are as unreliable as people say and that after being recovered 3 times in 6 months for different problems I sold the Griffith - if a car can't be relied upon, it's unusable.

Trust me, I've had four of them and they're every bit as much a pain in the arse as any Alfa Romeo or TVR...

Just because it is not selling well in the UK doesn't mean it isn't desirable in other parts of the world. Go to the Gulf Arab countries and they are everywhere.

Yes ,few people need a 4x4 here in the uk and there is a garage every few miles , hence land rovers work fine
other places reliablilty is a matter of life or death so they skip the impressing the folks next door bit when they are buying a vehicle !!!!
