This car has grown a lot on me over the past few months, though much like 300' I share the reservations about future parts availability if it doesn't take off big time in the UK; given the current uptake I think it will so it shouldn't be a problem but if it ends up as another failed attempt at bringing a car here you will be paying far more for parts than the owners on the other side of the pond.

The first thing I'd do if I bought one (new or used) is swap those ghastly Euro clear rear light lenses for some US spec red lenses.

It is going to be interesting to see what dealer servicing prices are like on these as well compared to other models in the range.

With regards to the 5bhp loss... Do they take into account our far superior fuel quality??? biggrin
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we do not have superior quality fuel - its a myth. They just have a different grading system to us (they use MON whereas we use RON).

Rough guide
US 87 = 91 UK
US 91 = 95 UK
US 93 = 97/98 UK

You will pick up a few HP with a re-map for super (I did) so it is not all lost but then you are going to be stuck with Super Unleaded only.

Edit: beaten to it tongue out
Well they sort of do. Their lowest octane quality pump petrol I've seen in the US is 85 which is almost certainly rather below anything you can get in the UK. I've no idea if the Mustang will actually run on 85 but it'll almost certainly run on 87 which is still likely to be significantly below our standard 95RON fuel.
85 octane may have been in Colorado -- where high altitude allows 85 octane to function as 87 octane does at lower altitudes. The highest town in the UK is something like 300 meters. Denver, Colorado is five times that figure.

This belief that UK fuels are of higher quality than those in the US is inaccurate. Like US submarine crews nicking the Enigma machine inaccurate.

The equivalencies noted by PanzerCommander are correct, in my experience.

If you're interested in octane and performance... Pop over to google.com and do a search for something like: e85 performance gains.

With the widespread availability of E85 in the Midwest region of the US, folks there can run more boost, more timing, more compression. E85 octane ratings would be greater than 110 using the UK method of measurement.

I'm sure a company such as Moutune will release upgrade packages anyway that allow you to keep the Ford warranty and get over 5BHP. Nothing a decent Filter/Induction kit and exhaust upgrade with a remap can't fix.

It would have been in Tucson Arizona, which is also quite high up.

Guess which colour I'd like? IF the dealers knew anything about it, and kept people informed!

Nope and my dealer is now on holiday for the next couple of weeks. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Pretty tempted to order one after hiring the V6 version in the states. Will wait until they start rolling into the country before I make my final decision.

No UK cars have been Gate Released (left factory) yet. Loads are built but I'm sure they're all waiting for this update. My first three cars were due build 10th August but aren't ready yet, I check every day.

Ozzie's forecast.

  • An flurry of Brits will buy this V8 Mondeo coupe excitedly
  • Fuel prices will rise significantly
  • Road tax will rise significantly
  • Brits will realise it's a big car without much space
  • Sales will slow dramatically

Seeing as a v8 has an exhaust manifold on both sides, why is the offside manifold on a right hand drive car more restrictive than the offside manifold on a left hand drive car?

I would imagine it will be due to the routing of the steering column being different on the RHD model due to (again a guess) the ancillaries and starter motor being in the same place on the LHD car's engine.

Sales won't be big anyway, most people who want one will be an early purchaser.
I think that's probably right.

Previous sales of broadly similar cars VXR8, Camaro etc have very much followed that pattern

Check out the market fortune of previous Ford coupes in UK,
  • Probe
  • Cougar
  • Puma
On the positive side they are clearly hoping they've reinvented the Capri. Time will tell.

Is there an ETA on when they're likely going to be in showrooms to have a poke around and test drive? I was going to get something else but could be swayed to a Mustang but would have to see one in the metal.
