Too many cars?? Is there such a thing...no, surely not, lol.

We have;

Evoque, my daily
&
Boxster, misses' daily
+
Rav4, workhorse (entire family uses it tbh, which helps spread the cost)
+
mx-5, my fun car, but now sold, empty garage space, needs to be filled.

We have 3, 996 C2 Coupe, Clio 172 Cup (my daily + hillclimb car) & my OH's Mk1 Focus 2.0 which serves as family/dog/camping trailer tow car.

I'd have a 4th if I could justify the expense & the kids were a bit older so it would get more use (a Mk1 MX-5 would be nice).

Also have three bicycles in the garage, only 1 of which gets used (the 1 I've only just bought!).

Why not? I don't see the point owning a car which isn't being used. Takes up space, needs exercise, needs maintenance, costs money.

As soon as a car isn't being used I've learned to move it on.
Because I'm lazy and don't like tyre kickers. Dealers will take the hassle out of it but you end up with another car which defeats the objective. My Monaro is highly modified and worth a lot more to me than somebody would pay for it, I couldn't break it for parts as it would be heartbreaking so that has to stay. The Landie is my 'proper' car for family duties so that has to stay and the Saab is for the station to protect the Landie from morons driving into it. The bike is well...my bike and I'm riding that to the IOM tomorrow to spend a week watching the racing. My wife has a Focus.

My brother is just as bad, he has a TVR Griffith, a Jag XFR and a bike (he's coming with me to the IOM). Inspired by tales of my Saab, he has also just bought my nephew's Suzuki Swift for winter driving as the Jag, bike and TVR (he says) are not suitable.

Had a look at your garage and the Monaro sounds pretty incredible. smile

I like cars, so have too many as well. A Monaro that is gathering dust (but, not really - it's too clean), a DeLorean (the project), my TT (8N 225) plus by now old CBR600F and my wife gets to waft about in an S5 (v8).

Too many? Nah. I want more.

We have 4 at the the moment,
My MB CLS and TVR Tuscan
My Wifes Disco 4
Daughters Astra

A few years back there were 5 cars, the fifth being a little Rover Streetwise which was my workhorse.
As I work away and my Wife only drives auto's, the Rover sat for weeks on end. We decided to trade in and get an auto and something a bit bigger for tip runs etc.
Ended up with a Nissan Murano.
My Wife liked it so much her brand new MB SLK became a garden ornament.
In the end we traded them both in and got her a new Murano.

Unless your car is like a super future money saver EG an M3 CSL in mint condition then just use it every day.
I don't get people who have middling cars, like a 997 911 Carrera S who go "It's far too nice to use every day".

you bought your money, just bloody use it.
If you struggle to afford the fuel to run it daily and buy a cheap diesel runabout then that's fair enough. :-)

A bit of a combination here.

Mrs Roadster25 has the "new" car, a Mini Cooper S cab which she uses for work every day, about a 40 mile trip. I only drive about 5 miles each day.

I have a Leon snotter for work and a much loved Austin Mini. I try to use the Mini as much as possible whilst keeping the condition up, but it has been known to do less than 1000 miles in a year. The fact that it is paid for and would be enormously difficult to replace stops me from selling.

We may also have acquired a Eunos Roadster which is awaiting a spot of welding. Not sure where that's going to live yet...

Thanks. It has taken a lot of time and money to get it to the stage where it's 100%, every day reliable which is why I cannot see myself parting with it, having said that everything has it's price.

We currently have three in our household.

The Project
1983 Land Rover Series 3 88in. Bought three and a half years ago to cure my long standing itch to own something from the green oval. Lost track of how much I have spent on it, but its an ongoing project. There is a thread on it somewhere. Didn't get much response though frown So far its had new wheels, tyres, suspension and I'm in the process of installing inertia seat belts. Also fitted tow bar and electrics. Going to swap out the rear panels for station wagon window panels and the front wings will eventually be replaced. I'm also hankering after a V8 motor too!

Saab 9-5 Aero Estate Auto
Sits on the drive all week and only really used at weekends as I get the train to work. Really like this and the decision has been made that I'll keep it for as long as I'm working in London and getting the train every day or it blows up!

Ford C-Xmax Zetec
Bought by me for the wife. Sold my Civic Type R to fund it frown Not much to say. Its functional and that's about it. Should have bought the petrol model, but hey ho.

It would take a serious change in circumstances for us to go down to a two car house hold. The Land Rover is probably the only car that is losing money every month. I recon series prices will go up once Defender production finishes at the end of the year. Alos, if I sell it, I know I won't be able to get another one frown

Also have four bicycles in the garage. Only one that gets used at the moment is the Brompton and that actually cost more than the Saab! I'd quite like a new shiney road bike, but if I bought one tomorrow, I would probabalyu just sit in the garage with the rest of the bikes!

I don't get too emotional about selling cars. I'm pretty good at it and I all ready have description written for the Ford C-Max which is going in July of next year to be replaced with a Zafira (Misery!)

Another one with possibly too many.

TVR V8S. A keeper, puts a huge grin on my face every time I just start it up.
BMW 840 Ci Sport. Another keeper. Have fallen in love with this one as a comfy cruiser. Again get more fun bringing her up to perfect condition and gets the most smiles from passers by than any of the others.
Mitsubishi Galant VR4 estate. Bought as a cheap practical daily. It hasn't turned out like this though as the running costs can be slightly ruinous. Especially for its value. Again I have grown a soft spot for this and not sure if I can bring myself to sell it.
BMW 320d E91. Motorway mile munched. Boring but good at what it does. 225k and still going. Feeling like a perverse game to see how high it'll go!
Girlfriend has a E85 Z4. She likes this and won't let me sell it. I have no emotional attachment here wink

I keep on browsing eBay and feel the need for a pickup. Have a huge hankering for a Dodge Ram SRT10. I like to think it's practical as it has 6 seats, large load bay and can tow 3500kgs! She doesn't agree and would prefer a FF Range Rover frown gives me a chance to tow cars to be looked after and would make life far easier.

I wish the interesting for up to £5000 thread didn't exist. Way too many temptations and chances to get into further trouble!

Would also love a model T speedster but I keep on telling myself that's a stupid idea hehe

More than one car would be nice, but I can't face the extra insurance/VED costs considering I drive around 7k miles a year.

It's frustrating though as I get attached to my cars after spending lots of cash to get them right then can't face getting rid even though there are others out there I'd like to try.

Much cheaper owning multiple bicycles, but I am restricting myself to a maximum of 4biggrin

4 at the moment :

Triumph Herald - was my wedding car and gets occasional runs out
Rover P6 - was going to use it daily but since bodywork has been restored its now 'too nice'
VW Beetle - bought because it was there, didn't want a Beetle, but its grown on me, Ive got the bug!
MGF - Daily driver, too small and rubbish in winter and want to keep it pristine

Next car will be a shed for the winter, an old battered K11 Micra as cheap as possible. See whats available come October!

Yes I'm seriously ill also....silly

4 here....

BMW 330i manual touring - a bit sheddy but really practical and been totally reliable
Subaru Forester 2.5 XT - missus loves it, again a bit battered but a fun car to drive
MX5 mk1 - 25 years old, bless it. Least practical but cheap as chips to run
BMW M5 E39 - my toy but at least it's practical! No major costs yet

I need to get rid of one though - it'll probably be the 330 <sobs>

Buy a main car that you don't care so much about.

For me, the "main car" can be nice, however needs to be treated as a white good for a purpose to some extents. It's there to serve a purpose, and a few dings and so forth go hand in hand with that.

Does anyone else have this illness ?
Yes, and it caused our neighbours to say we have "more cars than bl--dy drivers!".

But it works, because we avoid brand new cars. My last two brand new cars were awful, and cost a lot, so that cured me of that type of disease. Now we run several older cars instead, nothing newer than 5 years old, and we can easily run 2 of those for less than 1 new one.
I had that along with you have more cars than there are days of the week too!!!

Same here although I'm slimming the fleet now down to 6 maybe even 5 before 2016 gets here (well trying)
