250 orders for new TVR

The good news continues from TVR with a "staggering response" to inviting deposits

It says something of TVR's lasting appeal that over 250 deposits have already been taken for its new sports car in six weeks. This despite no information on what the car will look like or indeed even be named. Talk about a leap of faith!

When there is a new pic we'll use it!
When there is a new pic we'll use it!
But then the alliance of TVR with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth is an exciting one, and a lot of people have already seen and heard enough potential to part with their cash. Chairman Les Esgar says it's "a heart-warming situation", and that more details will be revealed soon. He added: "To all our customers who have shown their faith I can promise that the new car will exceed expectations in every way."

Indeed, such is the level of demand that 2018 is now being quoted as a delivery date despite the new TVR set to first reach customers in 2017. TVR's Operations Director John Chasey says "initial volumes are limited" as the factory will increase production through 2017.

That's about it for now, with more announcements to be made in the coming weeks. Can we start suggesting names yet?

I can't quite reconcile the difference between "deposit" and "unsecured loan".

Some brave souls out there, hope it works out for them.

This is looking promising compared to the previous false starts.

Can't see this failing: Les Edgar + Gordon Murray's low cost production + a devout customer base and iconic brand

Hopefully they stick to TVR's mantra of keeping it simple

Can't wait to see what it is like!

As for names, how about the TVR Testis -
As long as the design philosophy is continued, you'll probably need a big pair to drive it fast.

On a more serious note, I couldn't be more excited about a car. Shame I can't afford one...

There's enough substance behind the partners involved to give confidence in this venture, I'm fascinated as to where it will sit in the market.

Great, soon Pistonheads will be able to get rid of all this other rubbish and get back to just being news and discussion about TVRs.

Knowing I have to wait 2 years before seeing one of these on the roads is almost too much to bear! Hats off to those who've put down a deposit.

It's about time, especially all those unreliable german things that need engine rebuilds every 5 minutes. smile

This is what I mean; I've wanted a Tuscan since they were unveiled when I was a kid but now, at 26, it looks like I may be able to realise that dream in a few more years...so long as values don't follow the Sagaris!

TVR had better have something utterly mind-blowing lined up to make sure these deposits stick! There must be some serious die-hard fans out there. Fair play to them tbh, brand loyalty ain't a bad thing. They're just one of those manufacturers that can get away with this kind of thing.

It will be an embarrassment if it turns out to be absolutely pish though. I'm excited myself to see the final product and I've not even got a deposit down biggrin

2018 rather than 2017. I really hope it doesn't slip back any further. I can't judge whether 250 deposits is staggering or not. Good luck to them and everyone that's on the queue. I'll own another TVR I think but it'll be after the reviews are out and the potential 1st generation issues dealt with.

I think they mean the 2017 allocation has sold out, and if you put a deposit down now you'll get your car in 2018.
