Only in your opinion, in mine a car can't possess soul as it's just metal and rubber.
It often seems to get touted when people are just talking about flaws.
Yep. Or slagging off a car that is objectively better than the one that they prefer. "Sure - it is faster and more comfortable and has better steering feel and handling and is more economical and is more reliable etc etc, but it doesnt have soul!!"It often seems to get touted when people are just talking about flaws.

it's all projection - all in the mind for sure.It often seems to get touted when people are just talking about flaws.
great memories from road trips, history of the marque and 'joining the club', trails and tribulations of ownership.
There is of course no objective soul in a car, but we're human. so let's cut the Alfa owners some slack ;-)

Which is what I don't get, if you prefer one car over another for whatever reason, it doesn't really matter, we are all different and want different things.Soul in a car is not a real thingStating ane car has should and another hasn't as a fact seems rather odd.

yep, sometimes people struggle to articulate what they mean and feel.Soul in a car is not a real thingStating ane car has should and another hasn't as a fact seems rather odd.
Just because a car is faster or can corner at 1.5G doesn't make it better, just that we often fumble with describing what we want/like/feel and the metrics for a good car are often not objectively measured. We should still try though, it's part of the fun on here.
I often 'criticise' modern Porsches (lack of soul???) yet i'm a big fan of the brand's history and the sound of a flat six. So while i criticise at some level i feel a certain 'soul' present when i see and hear a 911. I've always appreciated driving them as they're proper driver's cars. That's just me growing up with that car being a poster child for a real sports car rather than say a purble Lambo which to me seemed silly and unuable.
My friends dad treated himself to a 2009 Porsche Carrera 4S with his retirement money and I've got to say the flat 6 sounds wonderful. He previously had a 4 cylinder 944 so obviously it sounds much better than That did! It really is an impressive car.
Never heard an F Type yet but I'm sure it will sound nice too.

F type noise is nice, but some of the mannerisms are a little bit too engineered/forced e.g. pops and bangs every time etc - some don't like that. Never heard an F Type yet but I'm sure it will sound nice too.

Im sorry but i just don't get the article?
The Porsche does everything right, right across the board whilst agreeing you go onto trying to turn these into negatives.
We all love a British built car but please leave the smutter press to the likes of the daily tabloids.
No it doesn't, crap electric steering for a start - no matter how hard the engineers try, electric steering will never be good at anything but saving the odd thimble of petrol. The Porsche does everything right, right across the board whilst agreeing you go onto trying to turn these into negatives.

I know the Jag saloons were going electric, thought the F-type was still hydraulic?
Afraid not. all electrical, kept the announcement on the 'down low' when they released the fact that auto v8 r/v6s were going AWD. If you look or watch recent f type reviews they mention it - but do say the system is very good. So if you want a hydraulic rack... look at pre 64 reg cars i think - you would have to check with jaguar for confirmation on when the switch was made though. I've never understood the obsession with one car being lighter than another.
Unless you have to lift it or the only road to your house is a bridge which looks like something from Indiana Jones, I can't really work out the problem if the car still has the performance you'd like. The F-Type has the performance I'd want and as such the weight is irrelevant.

Depends on how sensitive the driver is to weight, and if they occasionally track their car - that is a place where the 300kg increase in weight would inevitably show. But I understand your point. All depends on a driver to whether they're bother about that type of thing.
Weight is the enemy of an engaging drive, and increasing weight makes balancing ride and handling harder and harder. Heavy cars also really struggle to maintain good steering feel and chassis feel. Brakes suffer for feel and staying power, too. Grip limits have to increase, too, which means the car is less fun at low speeds. Etc etc etc
If you can't feel the difference between the way a 1500kg car feels as compared to one that weighs 1200kg, you may also enjoy an 1800kg 'sports car'. But weight is pretty important to most driving enthusiasts.
