And they advertise? So then 100 riot officers can charge them when they run the lights and arrest the fecking lot.

The s were doing it on the M1 yesterday. Thousands upon thousands driving at a snails pace, cutting me up and generally ignoring the highway code. They were all in cars but they sound like the same people.

Just be thankful your bike wasn't pushed over. If you're dumb enough to fk with CM you deserve everything you get. I've seen cars attacked, bicycles crushed and fist fights at other CMs.

As you have two threads about this I shall pop over and post this on the other one.

Police on bicycles used to escort them, and they would run the red lights with them.

CM's been going on for many years in loads of cities all over the world, it's been in the papers often enough. Hard to believe there are any road users with enough spare time to type st on internet forums who are so badly informed that they've never heard of it.

I've never heard of it,and I drive in central London most days. I read the paper, listen to the news, look at ste on the Internet and sometimes even talk to people and these muppets have totally passed me by. Whatever their point is is seemingly lost on most people

Apologies, only read the OP so it may have already been posted, but whenever I think of Critical Mass I think of this.

If only everything in life was as formidable as a Golf.

Just so we are clear, what exactly is their point?

I'm guessing that beyond pissing lots of people off they have achieved very little?

He doesn't specify which country the Police escort was in, and it was originally a 'Merkin thing, not going 20 years in the UK if wikipedia is to be believed.

the 'old' Critical Mass London website states that the first CM London ride was in April '94

That just fails to load anything for me and the second one just told me when it was on. Never mind, I'm really not that bothered enough that anyone should spend time on it. I couldn't be arsed to google it and was just hoping for a quick summary from someone in the know.

There is a quite obvious solution.

Organise an even slower moving "protest", start a few minutes before them and take the same route.

Fair enough, I'm only familiar with their activities from horrible news clips of motorists ploughing through cyclists, and never logged the name CritcalMassholes until now. I hate them now and don't expect their aggression will ever make the roads a better place.

I can remember one in the mid 90s in Bristol, they used old cars to block the entrance to the M32 at St Pauls and had a party in the road. The protest was about the loss of green spaces in the city and the poor road infrastructure for cyclists, we're a right-on liberal bunch in the south west, well when we're not ploughing, scrumping or boffing our sisters...

Its a shame that its so confrontational now but hardly surprising. They would make a far better point were they to obey all traffic signals and just ride en masse. That way everyone would be a little more aware of just how many people have cycles, could be on the road at any time and the space they require.

No I didn't mean anyone should deliberately go that way to make a point, obviously.
Great. So we're in agreement that the sensible response would have been to not go that way.
So, you may know it exists and it happens on the last Friday of every month. If it doesn't have a set route that's been pre arranged and publicised, how do you know which way to go to avoid it? I bet the large numbers of people end up taking multiple routes going in vaguely the same direction as well, so taking a nearby route should you find yourself caught in it wouldn't get you away from it. Looking at the videos this Dr Morocho has posted, edited to try and show the best side of the protests, we see pedestrians being attacked for trying to cross the road when the cyclists are running a red light. It seems any valid protest was forgotten a long time ago and it's just anarchy with a veil of trendy protest for cycle safety to give it legitimacy.
