The one joyous thing about this wet weekend was that the majority of cyclists decided to stay at home instead of pretending to be Wiggo or Team Sky around the Surrey Hills.

Apart from the occasional dhead, they're OK in ones and twos but most weekends in the summer they're riding around in packs severely disrupting flow of traffic in all directions.

Can't we just cull them like badgers to keep the numbers down? tongue out

Another cyclist having a rant.

Do you really think that scouring youtube to find videos of dodgy cycling to post supports the view that it's mainly cyclists doing the ranting on PH? Or do you think that it supports the view that the antagonistic posting is mainly anti cyclist?

It's not scouring YouTube, it's looking at my favourite cycling instructors channel. It's all in one place.

I think the bloke is a knob and I am entitled to my opinion.

Nobbers in cars.

Nobbers on bikes.

Nobbers in pubs on a Friday night, fighting.

Nobbers everywhere.

OP comes across a load of nobbers and thinks every other person who utilises that sort of transport is a nobber too. We all know who the real nobber on this thread is. smile

Why have you not been back to your other thread and answered the last poster who called you out on another pointless thread you made?

Oh yes, the one that says it is for information purposes and not cyclist or driver bashing.

I guess some people don't understand what that means ?

I think the bloke is a knob as well. But whether or not you were posting in response to my comments immediately beforehand it simply reinforces my point. The vast majority of rants on gg start anti-cyclist. As do the antagonistic comments.

And much of YouTube cyclists ranting is anti whatever they want it to be.

Why isn't the dash cam thread anti motorist when they get the same response ?

This forum isn't youtube. It's pistonheads so I'm talking about posts and attitudes on pistonheads, not youtube.

The dash cam thread isn't "anti motorist" because it isn't full of generalisations against motorists. It complains about the things that the motorist has done. I have never seen a dash cam thread which has been followed up by comments like "motorists, if they want to be treated with respect they should follow the rules"

I know this forum isn't YouTube but many of the clips come from YT and this is where it's being discussed.

The generalisation with cyclist/motorist is usually when cyclists and motorists are in these clips.

Some people just defend cyclists, others motorists, some just look at the situations as they are.

Yes, how DARE other road users use the roads!

Kill them all! It's the only reasonable course of action!

Is he knobbing your wife? All you seem to do is post his videos in any cycling thread you can.

Don't worry, he is not knobbing my wife.

You are still in for a chance with him.

It's illegal to ride on the pavement. So only sensible if you want a fine.

Is that not like wading into mumsent and saying they are 'anti-men'? What exactly did you expect when you joined a motoring forum? If you go onto the PH Liverpool FC thread you may be utterly shocked to find they do not think too highly of Manchester United. What causes a lot of the 'anti' comments is some absolutely insane holier than thou comments from those who chose to pigeon hole themselves as cyclists or whenever there is a video of a bike vs XYZ automatically side with the bike no matter what.

I used to commute by bicycle so I see things from both sides of the fence and what I see on this forum is a group of people poking a dog with a stick and then complaining that they get bitten and shout- "see, savages! shouldn't be allowed!". As for as being antagonistic goes, I read a comment on PH by a cyclist that they think it is ok to hold up a whole line of traffic as they have a right to be on the road. That is proper grade A ahole stuff right there and I would not dream of intentionally holding up other road users. One one of my regular commutes was a long hill that though not particularly steep was so long that after 1/2 a mile 10mph was the very most I could attain, so I used to hop onto the pavement and life in that part of the world went unimpeded and I reached my destination in the same timely manner, it made no odds to me yet made a significant difference to everyone else as it was a busy road with a constant stream of traffic both ways so I had to look at the bigger picture. Many cyclists on here would have said "fk you, you can wait" and risk getting squeezed by an impatient motorist or revel being the head of a line of considerate cars 1/2 a mile long.
Trouble is, hopping onto the pavement brings its own set of problems.

The main problems on the road are impatience, a lack of care and attention and for some people, a stinking attitude towards other road users.

This bit in bold is, i'm afraid to say, utter bullst. We are all motorists, we ended up at pistonehads because there was an interest in cars primarily, then the sub-forums grew so people can discuss music, pets, books and even fking watches.... No one joined pistonheads just to post on cycling issues despite your little fantasy and I am willing to bet you £1000 that every single cyclist on pistonheads would not revel in being the head of a line of cars 1/2 mile long. The cars would be impatient, tail the cyclists wheel by a matter of inches until they could find a big enough gap, pass and cut the cyclist up upon rejoining the lane... yeah that sounds like real fun.

PH cyclists are drivers too, they appreciate the issues they cause, the problem is they know the PH motorists who have never cycled on the road in the last twenty years dont appreciate the issue from the other side. When you are sat in the right hand side of the box, you dont fully appreciate the difference between passing a cyclist at 25cm or passing a cyclist at 1.25m for example.

Editted to add, this original issue was a critical mass ride the OP got caught up in and to date I have not seen any PH cyclist support the critical mass riders, more to the point they seem to be quite vocal in the opinion that they disassociate themselves from such activities and recognise the real damage it causes to other cyclists on future rides. I'm sorry that some people find this too hard to grasp and have to pluck out more camera footage from youtube showing cyclists doing dumb things to tarr everyone with the same brush and flesh out their sorry personal agendas.

How do you feel when you see chavs in modified corsas, do you think "yeah great another performance car enthusiast" or do you cringe and hope you are not associated with such activities? is it really to hard to extrapolate that accross to cyclists?
If the vast majority of people can see the chav in the corsa is not representative of motorists as a whole, why can people here not realise that the actions of some cyclists do not represent the rest?
