The main problems on the road are impatience, a lack of care and attention and for some people, a stinking attitude towards other road users.
The trouble with this forum is that some people automatically jump to the conclusion that PHers are these drivers.

I'm sure some are but I would like to think that most people posting on these threads aren't.

When you see threads like this one, it's easy to think that. Some of the responses spouted are really, really stupid.

The OP came across a load of militant idiots on bicycles and decided that, based on this one encounter, he has had enough with cyclists in general.

The comments about cyclists being injured are quite bizarre.

Cant imagine many cyclists "revel" in holding cars up, it makes me feel really quite uncomfortable to have car drivers sat behind you getting pissed off, I dont like it done to me.

I think its mainly not really noticing, the same pillocks that sit in the outside lane of a dual carriageway for mile upon mile when there is nothing on the inside.

Is that not like wading into mumsent and saying they are 'anti-men'? What exactly did you expect when you joined a motoring forum? If you go onto the PH Liverpool FC thread you may be utterly shocked to find they do not think too highly of Manchester United. What causes a lot of the 'anti' comments is some absolutely insane holier than thou comments from those who chose to pigeon hole themselves as cyclists or whenever there is a video of a bike vs XYZ automatically side with the bike no matter what.
Does it have to be "us" and "them"? To the Critical Mass fkwits, and the rest to whom cycling is a political act, sure, but most people cycling on the road are doing it for transport, entertainment or fitness. I see more automatic taking of sides from the handful of posters who simply despise sharing the roads with cyclists. I don't think there are any cyclists here who object to sharing the roads with cars, simply because most of them are also car enthusiasts.

.

There does appear to be some trouble during some of the CM rides and the OP almost had some.

If people really wanted to injure cyclists while driving it wouldn't be hard, sometimes the cyclist is at fault sometimes the driver. I believe the stats are about 60/40 with the motorist being the 60.

All road users need to be considerate to each other. There will always be knobs on the road.

CM a bunch of aholes on bikes just like football hooligans are a bunch of aholes in football shirts etc..... Pricks with a chip on their shoulder acting like pricks!

No need to ride how they do and no need to block junctions or multiple lanes of carriageways just so they can ride about.

The amount that don't have lights on in the dark seems very high, the amount who seem to be there just for a fight, riding on the pavement. Seems all the aholes on bikes seem to flock to these CM events.

Maybe it is a good idea to get the police to escort them and then start picking off the law breakers one at a time as they do.... see how many "normal" cyclists are left at the end.... but we can only dream on biggrin

Pity they are tarring all cyclists with their behaviour!

No. It's a pity that morons insist on generalising about other morons.

FWIW, my default is to side with the cyclists but even I cannot excuse the rampant idiocy of CM.

I feel that an ex army Land Rover is what's required in London. Held up by CM dickwads? Just move relentlessly forwards in a low gear - the Land Rover will not feel any pain as it drives over a cyclists's leg and breaks it. The steel mesh over the windows will repel just about anything whilst you laugh at the sorry fools outside before driving off.
I wouldn't advocate killing any of these idiots, but a few bent bikes, grazes and compound fractures might start a trend.

You'd never find me on a CM ride, even if I lived locally. As has been mentioned above, it's something that started out with an idea, but has been hijacked by idiots.

There is a bit of footage on this forum from a rollerskating event that seemed similar to CM. A real dick on rollerskates tries to make out a taxi has hit him, but it's all on dash cam.

All road users do indeed need to be considerate. I'm fortunate that where I live, I have loads of back country lanes to cycle down. Recently, I've been meeting tractors as farmers are working the fields. What do I do? I slow down and pull off the road if I can. I get a wave from the driver, he heads on his way and I tootle off too. Amazing how a bit of courtesy can make people feel really good.

On the flip side, I was nearly wiped out by an idiot in a car on Saturday. Whilst indicating and waiting to turn right into my drive, he decided it would be clever to steam past my left side (missing me by an inch) with his hand on his horn. I think I held him up for all of 1 second. It was a residential 30mph too, so I don't know what his problem was.

Point is that they are tarring other cyclists.... look at the reactions on this thread alone. Imagine what the car drivers having to wait for 500 cyclists to pass before he can leave a junction as it's blocked by other cyclists is thinking..... Like others on this thread I didn't know this is a monthly thing and would be pretty pissed if I was held up by some self important prick in lycra thinking they can pretend to be traffic police.

Glad when I cycle I try my best to get along with other road users as I am the most squidgy thing on the road and it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong when you are lay bleeding out under someone's wheels!

Don't worry, Critical Mass aren't the lycra wearing sort of cyclist, so everything will be perfectly fine and you will presumably be perfectly happy with the situation. Because obviously wearing lycra is an important factor.

No its not the same. If I went onto mumsnet I'd expect to see people interested in / taking pride in being a parent.

On a motoring forum I expect to see people interested in / taking pride in being able to drive. And that means recognising the need to share the road with other road users, not take every opportunity to have a (usually hypocritical) whinge about those other road users.

Well, the point I'm making, and was making in the post immediately above your earlier comment, was about people's posting on this forum; because I was responding to people posting on this forum.

So it is your spacktard brain that means you can't overtake cyclists.

Someone less charitable than me would say that you shouldn't be allowed to drive on the roads. Not fit for purpose, or something.
As I said, when your argument's a poorly thought out one, riddled with mistaken assumptions, you should direct your terms of endearment at yourself. It's not always, or even often, me at the head of the queue looking for a safe way past, I'm quite often just one of the people in the queue, being held up.

I'd quit while you're not too far behind if I were you. On the other hand, keep digging, I'm cruising along at about 3/10ths capacity fielding your nonsense.

CM are indeed a bunch of dheads, carrying out another irritating 'demonstration', just as the dhead BNP/Socialist Workers/etc. do. Groups of dheads in cars disrupt traffic to pursue their own interests (Car cruise? Taxi drivers? Piikeys?), it's not so long since the truckers did similar, and seems to be every other weekend with the dheads in France.

I'd go with:

That's it, I'm f**king done with dheads...
