Did you also become apoplectic when the taxi drivers blocked the roads in protest about Uber?
Did you also become apoplectic when the lorry drivers blocked the roads in protest about fuel prices?
Did you also become apoplectic when the motorcyclists blocked the roads in protest about wire crash barriers?
Did you also become apoplectic when the lefties blocked the roads in protest about austerity?
Did you also become apoplectic when the Greens blocked the roads in protest about airports?
Did you also become apoplectic when the Sikhs blocked the roads in protest about political prisoners in India?

Do you become apoplectic every day when car drivers clog the roads getting to their dreary office jobs?

Duh... Because that route is heavily congested, and will take ages to get to where you want to be...

It doesn't matter why it's congested. Unless, of course, you want to try to make some kind of point about it - which puts you into the same category of self-important "special" numpty as critical mess.

If the road was full of people on foot, heading to (say) a football match, would you try to push through them, too?
Duh? What are you, 5 years old?

No I didn't mean anyone should deliberately go that way to make a point, obviously.

However, people crossing the road for a football match isn't doing anything wrong, being pissed up on a bike and deliberately obstructing a road is a different matter, and if like the many people in London who seemingly don't know this 'event' exists then it may be difficult to get away from.

Do the above listed events happen every month?
Do the participants claim they were merely having a celebration and it was a spontaneous event?

(With the exception of regular traffic of course)

Great. So we're in agreement that the sensible response would have been to not go that way.

I'm slowly losing my rag with cyclists. There are a lot on my commute. Work in an area of under 4 square miles and 12,000 employees and the company does a cycle to work scheme.

Absolutely no problem with sharing the road, like most normal people. Its a good thing really, less cars on the road and all the benefits that come with that. But when you've got 3 abreast on the road having a talk with each other, it takes the fking piss. Especially when the traffic can go from 3mph to 50mph and vice versa in the drop of a hat.

In the last week alone, I was walking from the car park to the office, crossing at the lights, bike comes flying through the red at 20mph plus. No excuse. Could have wrapped his bike round his neck. Couple of days later, bike going round the one way system in a busy car park the wrong way. He clearly didn't give a fk. Do they just forget the highway code when they get on a bicycle?

I didn't see this one, but a colleague told me they were driving in to work and a cyclist actually held their arms out to prevent any cars from passing then started doing wheelies? Jesus Christ.

Umm, no. When they got to the junction and realised it was going to be a slow, messy route. Like I said - the cause is irrelevant. It might have been a crash, it might have been a house fire, it might have been any one of a dozen causes that couldn't be predicted in advance. It just happened to be some self-important bellends trying to prove some kind of point. <shrug>

The first Critical Mass in London started in '94 and has run on the same Friday each month pretty much every month since then

You must be about the only person in London who hasn't come across it or isn't aware of it (and so tries to avoid it)

I only worked in London for a couple of years, and even tho I never cycled nor commuted into London by car or motorcycle, I still knew it was going on and made a mental note of when it was expected

Doesn't excuse the attitude of some, but isn't planning your journey and being aware of planned events that might obstruct your route part of being a responsible road user?
I've lived and worked in London for over 20 years and had never heard of it.

Planning the same route in and home is part of a daily activity, most people would not expect to have their plans disrupted in such a way. Barring strike action, or some emergency, or well publicized demonstration, I'd not expect to have to change my route at all....

Not just necessarily about this thread but other cyclist threads too. I just find it fascinating that there will always be someone (more surprisingly on PH) who will defend the actions of a cyclist no matter what.

It's not cyclists that are the problem, it's London cyclists.

Sadly its not. I live out in the sticks and recreational cyclists can behave in the same way, not all of them, many are very considerate road users as I try to be but there are a significant minority who who behave like utter tts.

From ignoring red lights and traffic signals to riding 2 or three abreast while they have a chat they have zero consideration for other road users and simply don't care if they have a small mobile traffic jam building up behind them.

Cool.
He said that he was at fault when he touched the cyclist's back wheel with his foot (a singular cyclist don't know why you've pluralised it).
Uphill gardener is that you?
