Seems baffling that someone would steal such a valuable and rare car and then drive it around openly. It's almost as if they are seriously thick and ignorant

Thanks for all comments, guys....thanks for looking, sharing. My opinion is that interest in the car generated on forums/Facebook/Twitter played a big part in events

According to a colleague of mine who lives in that area, the car was left in a quiet road - probably to check whether a tracker was fitted.
