Damn, didn't realise they were being phased out. I'm running 245/40/18 and they seem to be in stock with most retailers. Time to do some more research.

If there's an OE size of the PSS, Michelin will keep making them as long as they have to, which is up to 10 years.

I am in need of a set of tyres for a 997 turbo, and feel a bit aggrieved at going for Michelin PS2's (which are an old design now). The PS4s seems like such a good tyre, but are not in my size of rear at 305/30/19.

Anyone know if there are plans for the 305/30/19 and whether Porsche will 'N' rate them? (not wanting to get into the argument about 'N' rating really...)

305/30 R19 IS on the roadmap for release this year.

Sadly I can't be more specific than that.

Edit - yes I can, you can buy them already

Jon, thanks for all the advice on this thread.. do you know how we work out what the OE size list for this tyre is?? I'm tempted for my next car (size 17", which is as small as they come), but don't want to be left without a replacement option when the time comes. The Pilot Sport 4S and Conti Sport Contact 6 isn't going to be made that small...

That's a question for Michelin. As the 17" sizes of the PSS I know are 205/45 and 215/45 R17 I would guess they are OE fitment, but only Michelin will know how long they're agreed to be making the tyres for.

The Pilot Sport 4 is also an excellent tyre in 17", and there are alternatives which are close. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 is a great tyre too.

I love the PSS as much as the next man, but realistically I wouldn't let tyre choice govern buying a car you want or not.

Thanks, it certainly won't be dictating car choice. I'll get in contact with Michelin. I would consider PS4, Asy 3 and the new Premium Contact 6, but the car may get used for light competition use and the MSA seem to have forgotten to update their approved tyre list..

Will be interested in your views as I'll be doing the same on my F80.

I want to try PS4 or CSC5 on my 135i but my PSS have lots of tread left!

Got Birds suspension on my 135i and I know Kevin Bird isn't a fan of the PSS

Just changed a set of Bridgestones for Pilot Sport 4s. Totally transformed the car, quieter, better ride, handling and grip.

The PSS is more performance oriented compared to the PS4.

The PS4S is the PSS replacement

I've had the 5P's since i bought the car just after its RIS, on abut 1200 miles. I'm on about 6000 miles now and the tyres have circa 4mm tread, so nowhere near the legal limit, but i usually change tyres at 3mm. So i think i will give a fair comparison between the 2 tyres

I've done 35k in mine, 26k on the 5P (the rest on winters) and they still have 4mm all round, they are stacked in the garage and was thinking of just putting a set of PS4S on rather than re fitting them.

Need to drive quicker I guess. hehe

5Ps are really soft and turn really treacherous in the last few mm of tread wear. They lasted 15,000kms on my RS250 Megane...with rotating every 5000kms. I ate two sets. Excellent tyres though. PZeros where every bit as good and seemed to wear a bit better. Ditto PSS. No clue on the new CSC6 though, or the PS4.

You must drive your car round on its door handles....9k miles from a set of tyres? I got 30k from a set of MPSS in 560hp M5.

I'd love to know where people go to drive so quickly (other than a track) there is always someone in front of me or a speed camera or speed bump.

9,000 miles from a set of Continental Sport Contact 5Ps is actually quite decent mileage. I've seen them gone in 3,000. They wear VERY poorly.

What's the typical wear rate of tyres on an F10 M5?

The Super Sports I had on my e39 M5 lasted 14k miles.

Put them on a Renaultsport Megane. Those things devour rubber!
