How long can you wait? I've a set of Super Sports and a set of Sport Contact 6's on their way to me, it will be at least few weeks before I've driven on them both enough to form an initial impression.

I'm very excited to do the comparison, I feel they'll be closer than everyone imagines.
Even if it's close, is it likely to be the usual in terms of Continentals wearing out much more quickly?
I can't comment from my own testing yet - the official line for the Sport Contact 6 is 7% better wear than the Sport Contact 5P.

I've heard anecdotal reports of the Civic Type R boys getting through tyres rather quickly (The SC6 is OE fitment)

7% on a very poor wearing tyre isn't an amazing improvement though. For me it would be an extra 400 miles or so.

Has anyone been running the SportContact 6 for any period of time to form an opinion?

I'm looking to take off the winters shortly and trying to decide between them and the Michelin PSS.

Cheers

Steve

Look forward to see this, shame at this time not in my size. Will point my MK2 RS mate at the article when it arrives.

Just fitted PSS and they are great...

BUT, road noise seems far, far worse that the Contis I had prior.
My thoughts re road noise as I had them fitted late last year too, plus very firm. Had CSC5 on my 123d and I'd prefer them ATM.

Car up to Birds on 5th to check B1 setup and Kevin will prob comment on my PSS on the car.

Seems I somehow completely missed page 3 rolleyes

On a different note, the tread pattern of the PSS and the PS4 seems quite different, I wonder how different the compound will also be? The upcoming tyre reviews will be interesting...

Pilot sport 4s are a replacement for the ps3/pilot sport 2 as the ps3 was more all round than performance.

I believe there is no plan to stop production of the pss .

The tyre id like to try most is the trofeo R by pirelli.

PSS will only be available in sizes where it has been used for OE homologation. All other sizes are being stopped and replaced by the PS4 unfortunately (according to Michelin at least). There is an article in the new EVO magazine.

Christ - the mis-information on here is incredible sometimes.

Pilot Sport 4 is a replacement for the Pilot Sport 3 which was a replacement for the Pilot EXALTO 2.

Pilot Super Sport is the replacement for the Pilot Sport 2. A replacement for the Pilot Super Sport has not yet been announced.

Sorry. Rant over. As you were.

With the pace of change the PSS is getting long in the tooth. Will be interesting what the new tyre in 2017 will be and where they are planning for product placement

I'll stick my initial impressions here and of course link to the full thing when it's ready smile

This is just about as correct as anyone can be. I'm not sure what the EVO article said word for word as I've not seen it yet, I'm waiting for official clarification from Michelin.

That's the way I see it too.

PS2 -> PSS
PS3 -> PS4

Michelin have moved the goalposts. This is the official line:

tyrereviews said:
Before we get to the driving details, it's worth understanding how the Pilot Sport 4 is being positioned. The Pilot Sport 3 wasn't the direct successor to the Pilot Sport 2, that was actually replaced by the Pilot Super Sport, but instead the Pilot Sport 3 actually slotted in between the Pilot Exalto 2 and Pilot Super Sport, aiming more at the hot hatch market, and moving the balance towards wet grip and comfort.

The Pilot Sport 4 builds on the success of the Pilot Super Sport, and also takes lessons Michelin have learnt as the sole tyre supplier for the Formula E series, meaning the new Pilot Sport 4 is once again more inline with the "Pilot Sport" ethos. Think of it as a brother to the Pilot Super Sport, and a cousin of the Pilot Sport 3.

Hi All

As Michelin's Technical man in the UK I just wanted to clarify what is happening

We can confirm that this is absolutely not the end of the road for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

Existing OE fitments will continue to be made, and in fact the Pilot Super Sport range will continue to evolve.

There will be developments of both the Pilot Super Sport and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in 2016, so watch this space.

Many thanks for the interest, and apologies for any confusion.

Any ideas to this Jamie?

Many thanks for the post, is it worth speaking to Evo and any other media to have them clarify the article and its correctness?

I'm not Jamie, but I'm happy to discuss. I'm not sure what you're asking?

Looks like the inside of a front tyre which has scrubbed the shoulder due to geo. The tearing around the tread pattern isn't that unexpected given the unusual wear at the weak points where the tread lines are moulded in.

Fitted to a BMW?
