No. MK5 GTI. Never had this happen to goodyears, on identical setup. (btw... pss were a better overall tyre so not complaining about the tyres performance, just the ripping of the tread when nearly worn out.)

Will Michelin notify the public in advance of when they stop producing less common sizes of PSS so I can start stock piling a few year's worth?

That would be a bit unwise... tyres dont keep well. Something better will be around the corner anyway. MPSS2 :-)

Looks like excess camber to me tbh, alhough the tearing is unusual in my experience, generally speaking tyres usually just scrub down to the cords way before the rest of the tread.

...but worth a chat with a GOOD geo set up company that can not just "set it in the green" but also interpret the wear on your particular vehicle from your driving style and dial in a better, possibly less aggressive, camber setting to suit. Eg a less enthusiastic deriver might not cause as much wear. It then might also follow that the Mpss allows more enthusiastic cornering than the previous possibly less grippy tyres that came off your car, which in turn gives the excessive wear your now seeing. Perhaps?

Maybe the golf forums can help re set up?

Re Mpss. Absolutely cracking tyre. Only complaint is they are limited to bigger sizes. As I'd fit these to the rest of the gixer fleet.

By the way for the op, although too late, after recent poor results I would always suggest speaking to tyre manufacturers as to what they recommend for your car. Eg, The sc5 clearly works well on small front wheel drive cars, but in my experience of driving other forum members cars they are ruinous on large rear wheel drive cars such as my omega. Alarming straightline stability, no grip. Tyre completely overwhelmed by the weight and power of the car.

...I would like to add generally though....Porsche ( big engine hanging out the back) and most certainly Audi ao1 ( 4 wheel drive) marked tyres give VERY different handling characteristics than more conventional rear wheel drive cars by marques like Mercedes ( mo). I know this, as conti sc3 mo work great on mine, but ao1 sc3 certainly do not. Unstable, less grip, worn out early, darting around on hard breaking, very expensive mistake ( oh SIGH) so that's a bit like comparing apples with melons sadly.

For those not aware....Your car size and weight and wheel size mean that not all tyres work on all cars. In my experience. As mr Mcweir at customer services Michelin above confirmed to me by email, tyre manufacturers tweak tyres within a range, according the type of car and tyre size. As some sizes are more popular on front wheel drive, and others more common on rear wheel drive which tend to be bigger, heavier and more pwerfull. ( I emailed Michelin re mps4 on the rear of mine, as Mpss are na in my wider rear size sadly)

I do wish tyre manufacturers would make tyre choice easier it can be a very expensive minefield.

I was very interested in the Conti Sport 6 until I realised they don't do ANY 18 inch tyre sizes

Fools.

Not yet.

They'll replace the 5 at some point! It's a newer tyre than the 5P, so will probably be next year.

Did I read somewhere that the MPSS would become available in different sizes, or am I being overly hopeful???

How is the M3 with the CSC6s?

Really good, the traction is astounding, and they give you loads more feel than the 5P did.

If you give me a week I'll have tried the Super Sports in direct comparison, which I've had mounted on wheels today and should fit over the weekend.

Will be interesting to hear, my mate has opted for PSS as CSC6 not in stock sadly. I semi wished he'd gone CSC6, but PSS are OEM for MK3.

I'm still not convinced re PSS on mine, so will get geometry checked first

Hi All

As Michelin's Technical man in the UK I just wanted to clarify what is happening

We can confirm that this is absolutely not the end of the road for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

Existing OE fitments will continue to be made, and in fact the Pilot Super Sport range will continue to evolve.

There will be developments of both the Pilot Super Sport and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in 2016, so watch this space.

Many thanks for the interest, and apologies for any confusion.
Any ideas to this Jamie?

MPSS

p.s. i know its a repost, just want someone from Michelin to see what happens to their tyres.
Yikes! I'm having 4 x Pilot Sport 4s fitted to my Edition 30 as we speak. I hope that doesn't happen to me.

As you also have a MK5, did you find the standard tyre pressures (2.6 bar iirc) wore your Badyears out in the middle?

So in conclusion are the super sports still the best all round tyres? Will be looking to change in a few months. The ISF has Goodyear Eagle F1s on the back and they are just spinning up in anything other than relatively warm and dry weather when I get on the throttle. Granted the temps aren't great at the moment and I've moved from an awd car with less power but I expected better performance from the Goodyears.

The new Conti's are giving them a run, but I'm not convinced the wear is sorted.

How quickly do they seem to be wearing in comparison to the PSS? I guess it's not a huge issue as I average 10k a year and will most likely be running a set of winters from November through to March.
