For road use I'd stick with the PSS. That's my "in a nutshell"review

Both tested here:

(Although the Yoko was the previous non "R" version).

Very car dependent

I have AD09R's on my Impreza Type R and love the way they work with the car (road use only)

Tried PSS's on another Impreza (new age STi wagon) and really didn't like them at all

Spoiler alert - Yoko's win - PSS's fail due to squishy side-walls

I would suspect the AD09 (assuming they are the next AD08) are a level higher than the MPSS so would be better for track work. Although probably not as good in the wet.

The Yokos are excellent tyres for road and track. Better than the PSS in grip terms but will work out substantially more expensive when wear is taken into account.

If you want a track biased alternative then the Cup 2 is the real competitor.

Thanks Jon - looks as if there isn't a great deal of difference between the leaders in that test - the rolling resistance and Goodyear's claims about durability might swing it for me (it's only for the Saab).

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the review of the CS6 and PSS. Plumbed for the Michelin's in the end on the RS6,based on some of your findings. Just winging their way over from Gernany at the moment.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for that. I think I will be going for the AD08R's next as apparently they are excellent and have extra support in the sidewalls resulting in a more direct steer.

I've got AD08Rs on my Elise, great tyres (though what works on an 850kg car doesn't necessarily work on something 50% heavier)

Hardly 'tested'? One guy's opinions?

And comparing a trackday tyre with a high end sports road tyre is hardly valid? PSS are not marketed as track day tyres at all.

PSS are good. Very good, and are my favourite road tyre by a long way

AD08R grip better in the dry (and once warmed up) thats not disputable.

The AD08R can feel a little less grippy when cold.

IMO The AD08R and PSS are roughly the same in damp conditions. Possible edge to PSS

Ive not driven the Ad08R in the "proper wet" yet so cannot assess that.

The AD08R have the edge in terms of steering and braking feel, stiffer sidewalls of course.

AD08R are a bit more noisy. Although that could be a wheel bearing, Ive not checked to make sure yet :-)

I went for a full set of AD08R this time because I managed to get them cheap. (225 40 18... paid 90 each)

I wouldn't call them a track day tyre, they're somewhere between that and a UHP road tyre.

I agree. I think they bridge the gap between the likes of the PSS....and the likes or R888 and A048

Well, I've 'tested' both on the road and agree with him, so that's 2 smile

There are more comparisions out there, but the comments below sum things up

I just didn't like the PSS's, the wall had to 'collapse' before it gripped, so steering feel was vauge

Bugger - Ordered two PSS's from a leading online retailer. They arrived after a week. However, can you spot the problem:

I could live with new tyres that are 1-2 years old, but I think 4 years is taking the mickey?

Week 50 of 2012 is closer to 3 years than 4 years but I would reject them unless you received a big discount.
Typically thats the price you pay for ordering at an online retailer where you don't know what youll get until it arrives.

I always have my local shop order a fresh set because the tyres on myweekend cars die of old age before the thread wears. boxedin
