Thread bump for big news.

The Pilot Super Sports are officially being replaced in Jan, and will be called the Pilot Sport 4 S.

Looks like quite a good spec jump, especially mileage, and Michelin are focusing a lot on the feel of the tyre, which is a good thing.

Full details link below, I'll be driving on them in Jan.

That's good news, as I was a big fan of PSS but have been finding them increasingly difficult to get hold of lately

I strongly considering the PSS recently. After quite a bit of research I went with the Sportcontact 6

Was pretty much set on these to replace the OEM Pilot Super Sports on the M135i when they needed doing. Why wouldn't they do an 18" version considering they supplied a load of OEMs with 18" Super Sports in the past? Bloody stupid.

If you believe those test results the GY F1 A3 looks to be pretty good value for money in that little collection!

If I remember right the standard Pilot Sport 4 comes in 18s and the PS4 was meant to be the replacement for the old ps2 rather than the much less performance biased ps3.

Yes but I meant the ps4 was supposed to be a tyre more in line with the old ps2 than 3.

Just chopped it from and M140i and it has S001 Run flats frown
This is an interesting link on 4S's that replace the PSS

I'm now running Goodyear eagle f1 3 tyres all round. 225/40/18 and at 88 quid per corner fitted you can't to wrong surely?

I have those on a Honda S2000 pretty good, not as good as PSS though.

I've just put a set on my mk7 Golf GTi £300 for the 4, finding them much grippier and quieter than the awful standard Bridgestones.

Goodyears always seem to be excellent value for money.

Yeah I think as an all rounder you can't go wrong. They usually grip well and wear well.

The pilot sports would have been 130 per corner in my size. So just under 170 quid extra for a set. Even if they are a better tyre... I doubt they are 170 quid better.

Need to replace all four ContiSport 5 on my TTRS this week.

Considering Michellin SS/Eagle F1/Conti Sport 6

Any thoughts on how the Michellins will handle the winter weather? I'm not running winter tyres this year, and the comments about difficulty handling standing water have left me hesitant. Would the Contis be a better all rounder as I'm not doing any track days?

Super Sports are not much cop on even light snow. That shouldn't be surprising. They offer less grip than Pirelli P-Zeros in snow. Not that I'd recommend either, but I've been caught in snow a few times in the XF, the first year on the Pirellis and the second on Michelins. The Michelins are excellent the rest of the time, but they are also the first car/tyre combination I have got myself completely stuck with on a thin layer of snow at that - had to be rescued by my wife with the pickup truck.
