Were with my family for mother's day and I noticed my dad's 3008 (MK1), I think a 1.7tdi, had OEM (or at least the tyres it came with and he bought it new) PS3s on. Not what I would have expected.

Normal or some kind of freak occurrence?

What's the typical wear rate of tyres on an F10 M5?

The Super Sports I had on my e39 M5 lasted 14k miles.
On the rears of such a powerful car, if driven properly, that would seem about right.

I heard Michelin Pilots referred to as Michelin Pile ups, but this was a while ago, have they improved of late?

What does WOW mean? All I asked was if Michelin Pilots are `now' regarded as being good tyres? a simple yes, or no would have done.

It means I've been in the trade since 2006, and the Michelin Pilot range has pretty much been market leading since then, which was also the time of the original Pilot Sport, so I've no idea where that term has come from! I've certainly never heard it.

The PSS is more performance oriented compared to the PS4.

The PS4S is the PSS replacement
Funny that, Michelin are having us believe the MPS4 was the mid-life update to the MPSS.
What is it officially ?

I would like to see a test between PSS/PS4/PS4S smile

You may as well go for Ling Longs, they're just as good and a quarter of the price apparently.

Which makes those 30k miles on a 560bhp RWD heavyweight outrageous. I don't doubt it was driven properly too.

It's a cross between the PSS and the PS3. I believe it STARTED life as a mid life updated then the goals changed.

Got my PS4S delivered today, DOT 1117 on all 4 wheels so pretty much as new as they come. Is it sad that I'm quite excited about getting them? frown

9,000 miles from a set of Continental Sport Contact 5Ps is actually quite decent mileage. I've seen them gone in 3,000. They wear VERY poorly.
Put them on a Renaultsport Megane. Those things devour rubber!
Do they ? mine must be broken, I get about 20 thou out of my fronts Goodyear eagle's , though I don't do traffic light grand prix's

On my Megane RS I went though two sets of Conti 5Ps and most of a set of P-Zeros in 45,000kms. LOL

Are you UK?

There's 18" coming to the US (they might already exist), but my contact at Michelin is saying categorically no to 18" PS4S in the UK in the next 18 months.

Currently at 1600k (first 500-600 gentle running in miles) in 3 months on my Scirocco and they're starting to look 'old' already ie creases on the edge of the tread block where it meets the sidewall. I genuinely don't drive the car that hard at all as all my driving is around town so other than the occasional squirt it's driven pretty sedately most of the time. I do about 6-7k a year and I can't see the fronts lasting more than 5k.

Indeed, based on empirical observations on the same cars I have noticed that Contis wear rate are very poor (at best) compared to other premium brands for very little grip benefit (if any). I just don't get Continental tyres - amusingly the situation is the same for MTB tyres, no serious riders really bother with them anymore compared to Schwalbe or WTB or Maxxis.

I find Continental products are a joke, by and large. Or maybe they put all their eggs in the same "test win" basket where longevity is not a factor. Easiest trick in the book I guess.

But I'll be happy to give them a try again if their products improve markedly.

That's a pity, have PSS on my MINI and love them, and would like to try these down the line

In saying that, recently put PS4 on my RS4 and so far I like them a lot

I want to put Cup 2s on my CSL, but the PSS are lasting too well. 18k miles + 1 trackday now on both ends, the rears are maybe at around 3/4mm and the fronts way more than that.

Ridiculous, should have done more trackdays. Bloody Michelin.
