Unfortunately a lot of the time with bhing on pistonheads it's not about having a different opinion (I've happily accepted all opinions, IF the point has been put across politely), it's about trying to bait the OP into an argument so the whole wolf pack circle jerk can jump in too... Something I'm not interested in.

Here's some of the things I'm concerned about:

All iDrive service dates are from February 2014 meaning the first oil service is due in 6 months time, rather than 2 years. I've paid for a 5 year service pack on top of the car price, am I expected to lose 1.5 years of it? If so, surely this should have been communicated?

Brake fluid change used to be due every 2 years, now 3 years. The way I see it is if you'd bought this car in 2014 and it had sat around doing minimal miles BMW would expect you to change it. Is this any different? In that case it needs done in 1.5 years, instead of 3. If they reset the dates on the idrive to be from registration date then should all fluids be change just now so it's a true 2 years for oil and 3 for brake fluid? As I keep saying 3 months wouldn't bother me but that's 3/4 of the oil service term used up and 1/2 of the brake fluid.

Warranty, need it confirmed there's no issues.

Date of sat nav maps.

Is car software the latest revision? Was it ever plugged in and updated?

Some sort of explanation as to where the F it's been for 1.5 years. Not just for my own sanity, I need some reason to explain it when I'm selling the car down the line. Despite what others think when it comes to selling I always make purchasers aware of ALL the facts and let them make their minds up.

So do you think its a case that the iDrive should have been reprogrammed during pdi and has been forgotten about?

I sent it to the DP and it's been passed around the house where someone is now dealing with it (apparently), I've requested they are kept copied into all correspondence though.

I know from when I rejected my mini JCW that any complaint is never top priority and that was on a car which spent 3 months out of 6 in the garage!

I'm a bit more relaxed about it all now but there's still a lot of questions that need answered... Yet I'm aware that might not happen.

I'm now wondering if it was pdi'd at all.

Will certainly check in future, seriously just never expected that a moderately in demand car could've sat around unused for 18 months!
This is certainly odd and there has to be a reason for it....

However after just speed reading the thread, if it hasn't been already mentioned a car sitting for a year and a half FFS!!!!

are the fluids ok? has the engine oil perhaps gone acidic? are there flat spots on the tyres?

I really wouldn't be too pleased either TBH.

I don't think its odd, nor is it a popular car which is why I don't think its odd.

How many 1 series do they sell? Now how many AREN'T diesel, so how many of the remaining few percent of petrols are the big lumpy engines ones? The amount they sell with this engine is tiny in the grand scheme of things and more than likely only popular on this here forum for obvious reasons.

It's more than likely been sat in a dealership and shunted around the showroom once every few weeks as they change the display around.

I don't really see a massive issue with it, I'd ask them to cover the cost of the first service as it will be due a lot sooner. Other than that, I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve?
Servicing is not an issue as I paid for a five year service pack, what is an issue in that respect is why the servicing is showing up as being required from Feb 2014, not the registration date in mid 2015.

OP, what net discount did you get off list in % terms ? If significantly more than what is available on a factory order, then I would be happy. If not, then, I would be a bit pissed off, but then again you wanted the car there and then...
Approx 20% so about the same as ordering a new model.

I've been talking back and fore with the garage over the weekend, initially they were very defensive but that stance has changed for some reason.

They've said the car was PDI'd twice (once at BMW and once at their garage) yet no one picked up on the iDrive service dates being from February 2014. When I asked if it had been reset, would the car really have been expected to go 4.5 years from build until the first brake fluid change? And 3 for the first oil change? What date are the navigation maps?

They agreed it's not right and really didn't know what the answer was *but* they did say they'd like to have the car back to sell on? The area manager was going in next week so he was going to query everything with him as they wanted to know themselves. When I mentioned the servicing aspects etc they seemed to agree.

They've offered to put me in a new one for approx £3.5k ish over the cost of this one and I can transfer over the 5 year service pack to it. Still mulling it over but I'm glad they could see how it could be an issue and want to work with me.

Got a final conclusion to this one so as promised updating the thread, my order was finally placed today after thrashing out the deal in the last few days.

The dealer tried to place me in a few different cars that were available from stock but the colours/spec weren't right, the decision was then made to order a new one, thankfully I'm getting on better with the lci's looks now! With an approx £8k discount (£30k after discount) I've managed to get a new car with a big spec for just under £4k cost to change and my 5 year service pack can be transferred onto it, arrives end of December with a high trade in price fixed until then. Happy days!

Here's what I've went for:

Alpine White 3 door M135i, Professional Media Pack, Elec folding mirrors, Front/rear parking sensors, Reversing Camera, Adaptive suspension, Sports Auto gearbox, Black heated leather, Harmon Kardon, Driver Comfort pack, Sun protection glass, Windscreen with grey shade band, High beam assist, Debadged, enhanced bluetooth & driver/passenger lumbar support.

I've got a set of Continental TS850P winters in the garage and a set of 18" staggered BBS CH-Rs (will probably use these in summer depending on how good they look) to go on, so I'm chomping at the bit. As mentioned earlier in the thread this car is going to be a long termer with warranty renewed into year 4/5 etc so I'm finally happy it's going to be right.

Thanks for all the comments in the thread folks, good and bad!
