Do you know if the 1.2 tsi engine has similar problems to the 1.4? I am just about to buy a 1.2 tsi Ibiza.
I don't think it does, or at least I've never heard anything about it. I've just had a look online and there's not much coming up, whereas stories of the 1.4 are everywhere.CedricN said:
I had the one with the twincharge engine. Exceptionally nice with max boost from no revs at all and then reeved nicely to 7k, felt very urgent. Then the hilarious oil consumption, that and cost reduction is probably why the 1.4 is out. Will be interesting to drive the 1.8 to see if it is fun enough. But isn't it time for a new ibiza soon?
From everything I've read on the net, it seems like the dual clutch is reliable enough but the 'twincharged' engine has major issues. After 2012 it seems like they fixed the major issues. I think VAG have given up and replaced it with either the 1.8 TSI or new turbo 1.4 'ACT' engine.

They didn't really have a choice with the engine though, the last one didn't work properly.

Used 1 ltr of oil a month pretty much from new. It lunched a piston at about 10k miles and I had to drive a bog standard ~60 bhp Mii for a month while the dealer replaced the whole engine under warranty. New engine also used 1ltr of oil per month from new. Got rid soon after.
It's a shame, as the rest of the car (including 7 speed DSG) wasn't that bad IMHO. It's completely eclipsed by the Fiesta ST I replaced it with though!

Shame you didn't enjoy owning the Boca. I maybe was lucky with mine as it ran perfectly for the 11 months I had it and I had a lot of fun.. didn't use oil as quickly as others say either. It's definitely quicker than stats suggest as well.. The fake noise in the cabin I found really entertaining too. I would have definitely kept it longer had the RenaultSport Megane not come into budget. It's a shame, as the rest of the car (including 7 speed DSG) wasn't that bad IMHO. I'm really pleased that SEAT have released the Cupra and its a manual only but I can't help but think that the "face lift" is very mild and the dash architecture is a generation behind the Polo & the brand new Fabia. Compared with the Polo GTi it looks very boring & basic (I know there is a VAG hierachy to stick to but on the top of the range model they could have been allowed to put in some visual flair).
I hope this means that Skoda will now make a VRS Fabia with the same drive train - the perfect replacement for my Monte Carlo in 18 months time.
