In a "purchase" of this kind, does the theoretical list price ever actually matter, given that the sum of money involved has not, and will never, change hands.
It matters massively for tax - BIK is a percentage of the list price. Really annoying when you're paying tax on a value that the car would never sell for.Slow said:

Don't know about anyone else but I'd far rather a £50k list 3.0TDI than a £62k 2.0TDI for what amounts to a near identical BIK bill.
Is there some other company policy at play, stating they will only order cars up to a certain CO2 category?
What if he does 40k miles a year and its purely for the mpg?Is there some other company policy at play, stating they will only order cars up to a certain CO2 category?
OP do you know what he actually stands to pay for it rather than list?
The more I think about this the more I think it's insane - unless he's getting a 30% discount the monumental depreciation and total cost to the business will surely wipe out any BIK ssavings.
Problem is a lot of companies now have a company car Co2 ceiling that can't be breached, regardless of seniority.
I think companies can get a tax break if they commit certain fleet emissions (or so I was told). So senior bods end up maxing the options on a 2.0tdi to use up their allowances. The 3.0 will not even be on the list.
At my firm those who like cars have all opted out. The youngsters though still love the lowest Co2 German company car with the baddest body kit and biggest wheels. But then the office is always more fun when the reps are in, bless their little cotton socks.

That would be telling, but I'd be surprised if you could get it to cost more.theboss said:

[quote=currybum]With every single option ticked for a black line A6 2.0L ultra you can manage a list price of just shy of £65k...that include £6.3K of sound system, £3.5k of Tech pack, and £1.5k of aluminium inserts.
Those three things will come to £11.3k, and I thought would have been included in a car in that bracket in any case. So, can we find a better way of spending that amount, new used or pre-reg?
For starters, ask nicely and your money should get you this low mileage 2013 Alfa Giulietta :

I wonder, is it possible to buy a slower car for +£60k?

If you have the means, then wafting about in a barge with EVERY toy on the list, listening to your £6k B&O sound system and doing 60mpg for only £400 month sounds like quite a nice plan - all in something that isn't going to ps off your clients or staff too much either.
The last part of that is very important to consider for many people. I've noticed a lot of cars moving towards this "personalisation" model with extensive (and expensive) options lists. Mrs Limpet has just ordered a new Mini convertible, and the choices are baffling quite honestly. And we passed on the "Open-ometer" which logs hours spent with the engine running and the roof down on a handy gauge for your...erm information.
