Spot on, if I'm driving a car with ABS I don't bother to read the road or brake early I just slam on at the last possible minute every time...........
Jesus wept. You do know that ABS doesn't actually change the laws of physics, right?Moominator said:

Your opinion is wrong I'm afraid. At least for this bit of legislation. Having a warning light on is not un-roadworthy.
It wouldn't pass an MOT though would it?However you could take a car for an MoT and it pass and a warning light come on while on the drive home. The car would still be road worthy.
It could be the MoT station didn't pick up on it. They don't have a list of what warning lights exist on each and every car. Or they might just have missed it.
It might have been put down as an official advisory. Or it might have been a non official verbal advisory.

To add to this non ABS equipped cars usually have a system of regulating the hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes to prevent them from locking up before the front brakes.
No, they don't. Not "usually". Some do - a minority. Mostly vans and estate cars with a wide range of rear axle loads expected. And I've driven a couple of cars with dodgy brake proportioning valves, they're a huge liability in the wet.
Have you had it code read yet? All this 'I want a BMW specfic independent inspection from the dealer and them to put it right' isnt going to get anyone anywhere, get the codes read, either yourself with a scanner or a garage diagnostic, see what problems come up and get a picture of what's actually wrong with it, what needs sorting and what's ignorable

Cobblers. I suggest you look under a few more cars that don't have ABS, a dying breed I know.
You might like to bear in mind at this point that not one of the cars I currently own has ABS. Or any brake proportioning valve, except for one of them - a VW transporter. And, yes, too much rear brake can be very entertaining. That's why - on most pre-ABS stuff - the bias is front-forward through matching master and wheel cylinder/piston bores. A limiting valve just means that you get a spread of bias, depending on varying rear axle weight.
Don't be snow flake its massive con the engin management light will fail on a m.o.t its a EU law and a stupid one.... if u have a old car just tape it up. This law the EU made is for future electronic cars and they are regulating this area so much that soon you will not be able to work on your car. Brexit now. Out of the EU

AFAIK engine light is only a fail if car registered 2008 on.
Old thread, but source? I thought it was mandatory for all vehicles equipped with a CEL since the changes last year. Mine is usually on... intermittent fault, not worth fixing it - I just cleared the code before the MOT last year and it came back on a couple of days after.I got fed up with looking at it though, so in the spirit of this thread I've now solved the problem.
