I am normally disappointed at cars appearing over this thread budget, but this 750Li looks remarkably clean at £6k, sneaks in at £290 tax, is gassed and a fetching colour combo too.

Just 4 pages back I was saying how I could never chose an E65 over an E38.

But that car presents a very, very good opportunity. The MOT history is a bit chequered, it's not a car that's had love lavished on it by the looks of things. Those photos are also not recent (too much foliage and an ambient temperature of 17.5 c) However, on first glance, it's far from 'gone' and could easily become a very good example.

What sort of horrors can these throw at one?

(asking for a friend...)

I think the MOT history doesn't read too badly - some worn tyres, an occasional ball join deterioration and presumably a new set of cats in 2011 as the emissions were rubbish. Not a car that's been pampered to within an inch of its life, but looks to be run like most folks - it gets a visit to the menders at MOT time and they rectify issues.

Lovely colour scheme, the best alloys and an LPG conversion as well. Buy. biggrin

I was sat behind a 300C touring on my drive in. They look better with age, I think. What's the Bargista opinion on them? Merc underpinnings, yankee comfort, surely a box ticker?

Thanks all for the E430 appreciation. (It's not metallic, so I'm guessing my particular shade of doom blue is Midnight - too bloody cold outside to go and check the code right now.) Difficult to imagine it finding much love elsewhere! Certainly not in my street, where I'm getting the same kind of what's-gone-wrong looks I last had when I rolled up in a Maestro some years ago.

Seems to be doing better mpg than I expected, though there isn't even an onboard computer to confirm this. Still plenty in the tank at any rate - the vendor left it three-quarters full (when I saw the petrol gauge needle in the listing photos I sensed I was onto a winner).
Great buy, almost as sexy as my blue diesel estate thumbup

Not to be a doom-monger but I would check those spring perches when you get the chance, they can look ok at first glance but fester away under the mastic sealant so you need to pick at them a bit. I had mine replaced for £150 so not the end of the world if they are.

Big. Plasticky interior. Strongly negative suggestions as to one's character.

So it's basically a Transit Tipper offered in a wider range of colours.

Check the jacking points as well, my 210 looked fine until I took the sill covers off.

That 750i is wonderful, one of the best things that's been posted here recently IMO. Shame about the grey leather but you can't have everything!

I hired one in Canada.

Good bits: utterly mahoosive inside, comfy seats, high spec, good drivetrain, went like stink, good wafter too. Touring is bigger still, obviously. Hemi engine available for peanuts, and fuel is getting cheaper. Merc diesel drivetrain solid and powerful if you need a DERV. Built in Austria I believe so build quality better than most US imoorts.

Bad bits: lots of cheap plastic if you're a dashboard-stroker, nasty cheap blue LED numbers, image.

I *personally* really like them with the mesh grill (aftermarket, common replacement), although the penchant for badging them up completely as Bentleys is a LOT council.

Definitely a Marmite choice, but definitely worth a drive to see if it's your thing.

Big. Plasticky interior. Strongly negative suggestions as to one's character.

So it's basically a Transit Tipper offered in a wider range of colours.

Back to the teutonic offerings then. Or maybe another swede. Are all A8's Quattro? If not Quattro, then FWD? RWD?

2.8 are FWD, everything else is AWD, I think.

Anyone had a look around this website before?

http://www.cargurus.co.uk/

Does not offer any price analysis on older cars such as would feature in this thread but does show how long the car has been advertised for and has a dealer rating system as well.
Could be really interesting if it gains momentum.

Why do other people's opinions matter? Drive what you want to drive, surely?

Hell - I drive a redneck's fantasy, purely because I can and because I've always fancied a truck. I couldn't give ten shades of st what I look like.

If not Quattro then Audis are FWD but that rather defeats the point of buying an Audi.
A Quattro in the wet is quite something smile
