Thanks for the comments. I expect the vendor is suffering from the same problem as me, what exactly was base spec for this year? Any good resources online so I can read up?
Hmm, not sure about online resources...it's all in my head from years of running at least 1 S class.

All cars had front electric seats but memory, heated and ventilated were optional.
Ventilated can be spotted by the 2 vents you can see in the back of the front seats. Most sellers pics will show it.

Comand was standard in the uk from the 52 plate first facelift.

LWB cars got electric rear seats, heated front and rear seats and electric rear blind.

320cdi got 17" alloys as standard post facelift. The 18" difda style wheels on your first link were optional and they are very lightweight for a 18" wheel supporting such a heavy car. Some cars got 8J front and rear, but you really need 9J on the rear which increases the cornering stability noticeably.

Other options include

Fridge between rear seats
Fridge in centre console
Exclusive leather
Heated steering wheel
Telephone
TV tuner
Electric boot
Distronic radar cruise control
Keyless go
Bi xenon headlights
Multi contour ortho seats
Integrated rear door blinds
Remote control for rear passengers
Rear entertainment screen
Fold out Towbar
Linguatronic voice control

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Most diesels don't have many of these options.

My S211 sold today to the first guy to come and view it. Pending cleared funds on Tuesday and collection on Wednesday, it's been a very pain free experience so far. Not sure how so many people struggle so much with car sales.

Will be quite gutted to see it drive off though....

5.7L V8, surely a rarity on UK roads! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

I have only been in these once, after a very long session at The Fat Duck followed by Heston's pub over the road, I do remember it being quite comfortable and the driver liked it!

Thanks for taking the time to type that, very useful! What about parking sensors? Most cars seem to have the dimples in the bumpers but rarely mentioned in the advert text.

Oof I quite like that.

Something about that era of Mercs which just ooze class, W140/W124 and whatever W number the 190e is!

These days just don't have that "something" in my opinion. Same could be said about BMW too.

Congratulations. A good car, at a good price, will always sell I reckon.

In the good old days, when we had that really useful car dealers thread (before it was locked due to a tiny, tiny minority of idiots) there was some fantastic advice and commentary. Amongst it was a comment that good sellers attract good buyers, and vice versa.

Obviously, there will always be exceptions on both sides, but you were probably the proof of the pudding - well done!

A very brief advert, but only £1,300. A very classyh way to spend such a small amount of money on a lot of car. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C659262

Parking sensors were optional but became standard at some point. They are very common though.

2 more options I forgot.

Bose sound system
Soft closure on doors.

I didn't like the W140 at all when they were reasonably new - but time has seen me change my opinion. In the right colour like the one above I really like them. The cheap ones seem to have gone as well.

A bit like the E65 and 6 series (I forget the E number, E63?) - I wasn't a fan on launch, but think they look rather nice now.

I have a tab open with that very car! No mention of miles though, but coming from a collector is usually good.

Does this have the 4 speed auto?

Parktronic was still on the options list in 03 (I specced our car) Bose was optional, and the soft close was standard on the s500 and above, not sure below that though- have a feeling it was std on the 430 too...

All I added at the time was Parktronic, TV tuner, Heated rear seats and Bose. Was in two minds about 18s, so the car is on the standard 16" wheels.

Love that w140, but the grey one on ebay is nearly my perfect spec. Can someone here buy it and keep it until Spring for me please? smile

Last but not least, welcome back to Ross!

Thanks! The Harry's garage review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIMQGk4xQqM) of the pre HE V12 suggests that the 3 speed isn't ideal. How can you tell, the straight gearshift pattern?

I also like this "Very good example of this fast appreciating classic. The car has recently been imported from Japan so has no rot anywhere and has been very well looked after. Please email any enquiries or call during office hours."

That looks nice, not sure i'd chop my SL in for one right enough. That garage in the pics would do me fine!

Nice to see some love for Volvo's, my old 740 turbo was picked up during the week for some much needed care and attention. Received a call from the garage on Friday to say they have it running perfectly, hearing that pretty much made my weekend!

Good to see you back on the thread Ross, positive news about your license!
