That 740 looks good (I'm no e38 expert) however too cheap?

Nah not too cheap. Just need to fill it up and sniff under the wheel arch for fumes.

I' usually noit bothered by such things but this was an exception. I think it'sthe close up tht really drives the wrongness home.

It took me 3 journeys today to remember to right my 3 pointed star though so I think I'm still normal.

You sweet, sweet boy. Patently a wind-up. Who are you really? Tony? Dave? Not Bob? Never you, Your Lordship?

Plus, in my minds eye it is exactly the sort of whip I imagine he cuts about town in by choice.
At present by choice is as simple as:

Does it have any fuel in it whatsoever?
Is it off the key?

Two thumbs up, and we are away.

In other news, SpeckledJimetta weighed-in heavily (no jokes please) last night with an impassioned plea for me to get another car.

What she meant was sell the XJS and get another car, but 50% is a passing mark in our house.

So I think I am shopping for an interesting saloon on LPG. I would very much like a Rover P6 like this:

No tongue in cheek whatsoever actually.

Anyway, this appeared timely in my email today on the subject of P6's:

Hopefully this will illustrate my problem!

N/S temperature wheel not illuminated
Fan speed setting not illuminated
Pointer arrow for air direction not illuminated
O/S temperature wheel dim (normal?)

Dealer tells me there's only two bulbs for all of this? Seems unlikely?

There are 4 bulbs.

First two are easily accessible just by pulling the plastic knobs off.
To get to the other two you need to undo the nuts under the knobs and the 2 phillips screws above the radio.
Remove the wood panel and you'll find 2 more bulbs housed in a clear plastic.

Replace all 4 whilst you're doing the job. 12v 0.4w with frosted glass are the ones for the job. You'll then get correct brightness and no melting plastic. The clear glass type work ok but the light doesn't diffuse so evenly amongst all the controls.
Thank you very much!

Yes, you would.

(If you do end up wanting to sell it, please, please, please can you pop over to Lingfield in it first and if it's nicer than mine I'll buy it and flog mine on!)

We had a great trip out to Tetbury in ours at the weekend to meet up with a load of mates. Bikes go on the back just fine and it cruises really nicely. In all honesty I have a love hate relationship with ours, but the love part means it stays (it's better than meh/hate or even meh/meh). I don't have much emotional pull toward a T4, no real reason... I can see the practical appeal though.

Belated thanks to v12amg and BigBen for your S211 council last week.

Happy Barging everyone.

p.s. Local indy 'Pedro' is working on putting an SLK230k motor into a 124 estate at the moment as a kind of after hours project/experiment. I think the plan is to see if it's viable to offer a range of more modern engines in order to make them an upcycling possibility. I reckon they might try to make an S124 E220CDI at some stage.
I have chatted to Pedro about this. I advised him to do the transplant with an S210 E55 motor. If you're going to do it...

Ref the VW Golf, my wife does a lot of miles and we could do without the fuel bills the Merc would generate if she was to use it daily, plus she likes the small size for parking.

Should have added the family love the VW Camper even more more than the Merc!

Idiotgap, you about this weekend?

What I like about this car is that it demonstrates how elegant a dashboard design can be without a dated satnav screen to change the lines. It's way more resolved and understated than the tablet faced monstrosities Mercedes in particular seem to be making at the moment.

Lifted from the Classic thread to solve your problem. Not exactly a saloon, admittedly.

These look seriously undervalued at the moment. Not sure I'd want an LPG one though!

Could make your XJS bills look like pocket change.

I really like the SLC, and went to view one, but why the fk you'd LPG it I really can't imagine.
Because some of us aren't in this to strike a blow to flame surfacing. We are neither fashionable, nor anti-fashionable. It isn't a hobby or affectation. We don't wish to stand out in the car park at work, or to have a hook by which people can remember us at BBQs.

No sir!

Some of us are just potless.

Well then thank you.

Can anyone think of a comfortable car with more old-fashioned gplan and bakelite visual wallop than the P6 which you can still buy a nice MOT'd runner for less than £3k?

Is this one of us? Mega spec: 24valve, 5spd auto, leather, air con, heated seats, 7 seats. Bit frilly in places but nothing that shed loads of cash couldn't sort out.

I was going to post that, but forgot. Interior is fabulous, butI can't say the exterior works like it does on the smaller cars.

300tE-24 looks like a nice car that could be made even nicer. Wonder what it'll fetch.

Crazy.

Bit short on the details and a new ebayer, but got to be worth further investigation.
