Sorry Harry!

1998 CL600 with a few little jobs to do, one unexpected job is a broken front coil Spring! Hopefully ordering a pair tomorrow.

What a beast! Lovely!

Thanks chaps.

Yes the bonnet is not st properly. Currently when I pull the release in the cabin it releases the bonnet on both sides but does not present the latch through the the grill to pull to finally open the bonnet. Any ideas?

Thoughts so far are that is lovely, so solid and proper. Engine is a beast and so smooth and quiet. Interior a lovely place to be. Drove very well on a long drive home (despite having a broken spring!).

First jobs are to sort the springs, get the bonnet open and put an MOT on it then a list of smaller jobs to work through.

One item I am after if anyone has any ideas is a rear light cluster passenger side, I thought I had secured one in eBay but the chap let me down.

Congrats to Axeboy and Bmthnick - both cars look great, if very different beasts (I must have missed announcement of the CL600 - complete surprise when checking in). As CdeG has said before, we, or our successors, will look back at V12 coupes with awe.

I could be totally wrong on this, but is there a lever? The first 129 I looked at defeated both the dealer and me until we checked the manual to discover the lever is hidden, and does not project from, within the grille star emblem. I didn't buy that car, in part because it seemed the dealer had not even had the bonnet up!

For what it's worth, the 107 SL is the same... the bonnet release is hidden within the large central grille star.

Pretty sure that there should be a lever on these, the R107 is the only one I remember having the lever hidden in the star. Then again my W140 didn't have a bonnet star as it was a saloon.

I wish you hadn't posted that biggrin very nice. I think I could get over the ugly rear lights of the early models for that price!

What could possibly go wrong??

The interior looks really cheap with the light in that picture.

If its the same as the 129 SL put your fingers palm up into the bottom third of the star, and you should feel the latch above, pull it towards you and you should be good to go.

I don't know what your 550i is doing, but the mpg readout on my M5 is showing 20, which is probably optimistic, so a diesel Twig must be more surely?
The V10 diesel Touareg eats fuel. Average of low 20s in mixed use I reckon. We got just under 30mpg out of one in mostly motorway driving.

I know that no-one else has commented on this, but I have been looking at these over the last couple of days, as an alternative to a FFRR. The only annoyance is the 20mpg as a derv - is Perth anywhere near you?
I looked at them as well. Viewed them as essentially a Phaeton on stilts. The V10 is tempting but even the favourite V6 TDI drinks like Ollie Reed on a stag night. Couldn't swap my 550 for one for no benefit in running costs.

27.2 long term average in mine at the moment albeit my usage profile is mainly motorway. Average on the Toerag V10 claims to be 23 and the V6 is only 26mpg, although on my use I could probably beat those figures.

The only reason to even consider a diesel is to save on fuel cost, and for me the saving would have to be absolutely compelling, ie orders of magnitude, and hundreds of pounds per month saved in order to persuade me to make a switch.

Not so great if you want hot air coming towards you though, is it hehe
You could consider going to the massive trouble of turning off the face vents hehe Analogue idea in a digital age, I'm that kind of guy wink
But that doesn't mean you get warm air going to your face, it just means you get no air going to your face wink
Why would you want hot air in your face? Anyway, only the centre vents blow fresh air; the face-level side vent blows heated air, if that's your thing.
You could buy a W/C140 - choice of either at the press of a button smile
