Not been serviced for 20k miles though....
Short MOT too. Advert sounds trade-y as well.

Just goes to show, even going fast can't stop these rusting.
Wonder how much it would cost to transplant the engine into mine. I'm sure my wife would appreciate it!
If you didn't let her know first, you'd better be ready with something to mop up the "adrenalin" from the seats wink
Some more reading on this if you're interested.
Shame the conversion uses the majority of the boot space.

£3500 is serious VFM, I'd be on my way there now if there was any chance I could insure it.

Maybe for a bit of fun but there's no way I could drive around in that. Totally fails "could you pick someone up for a 1st date in that without looking like a tt" test!

I seem to be in a position of owning 'only' one car for the first time in I don't know how many years. I've just waved off the new owner of an old car, in a deal done easily and quickly, which was at the opposite end of the spectrum to selling my 540iT. There is something to be said for the pain in dealing with the muppets that operate at the bottom of thread budget.
So, I'm now consoling myself by mentally spending all of the cash on something completely inappropriate - which leads me onto a question; Why is it then when you don't have the room nor the cash, there are temptations everywhere, but now that I'm in a position to spend, there is nothing that takes my fancy?

Because when you are actually going to spend the cash you become more picky than when 'spending the cash'.

Give us a budget and some requirements to ignore and I'm sure we can help you out.

Ooof, that looks magnificent. I'm a sucker for light seats with dark piping, especially when it's colour co-ordinated. Looks pretty well specced with all those steering wheel buttons too, bet the spec sheet reads well.

Much want.

yep, that's an M-Sport multi function steering wheel, it came with most run out E38's as they all got specced up to Sport trim which included the parallel spoke wheels, de-chrome and the multi function steering wheel. Most also got specced with Comms Pack which included the analogue TV, Sat Nav, Trafficmaster for a year (I think) and either a Nokia or Motorola car phone (depending on year). I bought my dads 740i Sport off of him and ran it for a while, it was absolutely brilliant apart from a power steering issue and having to replace the LED matrix under the speedo.

Originally it was to replace my 540 in being a roomy, auto, general do everything car, with tow bar ideally. But I discovered for a little outside thread budget I could get a 70k Touareg V10 (and who wouldn't want a v10?). Its to complement an e39 M5, hence the 4*4 auto requirements. I have also had thought about breaking the budget a lot and getting a FFRR, which could lead into it replacing the M5, and leaving room for a weekend toy, a w124 convertible for instance
I think thats relatively broad, what can you surprise me with?

I run an M5, so I'm used to a big bill, but fark! I don't think I can stomach Maser bills whilst in the midst of redoing my house

W124 and W201 help please

How hard would it be to transplant a 320 from a W124 into a 190, complete with manual box that is currently fitted to said 320?

It does and a genuine AMG V8 at half the money of a diesel VW is surely the way to go.

Otherwise:

Well it has certainly been done before. You would be best off with both cars and the 190 should be a 2.6, preferably a manual. The main bore would be the wiring, but essentially it's a case of removing everything from the 124 and putting it all into the 190.

Easier if the car you're transplanting into is a 2.6.

From what I can fathom, the engine bay is bigger, with a few panels in differing places.

Most conversions have happened now if you read the Merc190 forum, including a 2.3 Kompressor and even a Bluemotion diesel!

The styling isn't great but they are a surprisingly fun vehicle to drive in AMG form. Pretty much bullet proof and genuine off road ability if needed.

Facelift ML55 for little money, looks good to me. 150k is nothing on these motors.

Very easy if you start with a 2.6 which has a different bulkhead and slam panel than the 2.0. the 2.6 block also shares the correct mounts for the M104 320 engine.
The conversion has been done many many times with either the 300-24v or the 320 straight six.

Thanks for the pointers on the 190 3.2 transplant. The idea quite appeals, though I do wonder what the merc manual box is like - anyone?

I might have a look into that ML55, its less than 10 miles from me, so definitely more appealing than a trek to Scotland to view a s/h car
