Excellent, when are you picking it up?
Oh believe me, I'd like it. I've got a 15 plate Discovery on the drive which means that I definitely don't need it. I'm actually having an internal (infernal) debate about it. I think I'd want to put the badges back on

I seem to be in a position of owning 'only' one car for the first time in I don't know how many years. I've just waved off the new owner of an old car, in a deal done easily and quickly, which was at the opposite end of the spectrum to selling my 540iT. There is something to be said for the pain in dealing with the muppets that operate at the bottom of thread budget.
So, I'm now consoling myself by mentally spending all of the cash on something completely inappropriate - which leads me onto a question; Why is it then when you don't have the room nor the cash, there are temptations everywhere, but now that I'm in a position to spend, there is nothing that takes my fancy?
Give us a budget and some requirements to ignore and I'm sure we can help you out.

Sensible winter smoker?

(Please Note: All vehicles are subject to an administration fee of £95) - mmmmmmmm operating out of a cattle shed, might be ok.
All of their cars seem almost 'too' cheap? I keep being drawn to the 535D they have...
I went and looked at their website earlier and did see the admin fee - it puts me right off. However, I reckon I might be in the vicinity of the dealer tomorrow afternoon, so may try and view it
Im pretty local but not sure on their stock. £1300 for an A4 cabrio?!?! seems waaaaay too cheap.

If you do go, would you mind having a quick poke around the E61 535D that they have up for £5k?

EDIT: Are you looking for something fast and practical? Only ask as my C32 will be up for sale soon....

If you are and you don't buy it for yourself, would you mind posting up your impressions?

I'm local, so if I don't get there tomorrow, I might try for Saturday - if it doesn't float my boat I'll certainly feed back as to what I find

This looks a tidy one and cheap! You don't see many low mileage ones anymore.

By remarkable coincidence I was thinking about W202s this morning. They seem overlooked to me. Fairly decent cars, aren't they?
I think it's the mercedes rust era that gets them. There does seem to be quite a few around with low miles that have been purchased as a retirement car - perhaps one of these could be cheap and reasonably comfortable motoring.

I'd love a C43 and looked for one when I was buying my SL - with no exceptions they were rusty as anything, some on their second round of paint with more needed!
Rust aside, W202 are terrific cars. They retained a lot of Mercedesness yet are perfectly modern cars. I'd say along with W210 they straddled the transition period when Mercedes moved from a column of their own, head-and-shoulders the best cars in the world, into the much taller, busier column they inhabit today, entitled 'just another car, really'.

A good W202, of any spec, is a really proper drive. They encourage 'good' driving, and make you a better person. Like a 190e really, but much happier at a modern 80mph cruise.
I've had a manual 230k, the step FIL has a 200 which was my BIL's who is a W202 fanatic and has a C280 and bought my C230 off me! The manual isn't great as the reputation suggests - the older ones seem to rust more slowly than the facelift (around R reg IIRC) as I think prefacelift use oil based paint, but they all rust eventually. A good one is a lovely bargain motor. My understanding is the C240 engine is the weak point, but I can't remember why.

So chaps, with all the Mercedes love in here does anybody have any experiences of W220/C215 Mercedes?

I know the smaller Mercedes from this era get a bad rep, do the larger ones turn to rust/fall apart/become a electrical fire risk?. I've personally come across a couple of jammed shifters but that's a common issue. I do seem to see a fair few around suffering from ABC problems but from my own research that seems to be more to do with neglect/poor maintenance than inherit design flaws.

CL500s seem to represent fantastic value

£2995!

Or the slightly more mad, but oh some tempting prospect of a V12 and Twin Turbos for £5k if you're willing to put up with more doors...

As a rarer colour, that may be less prone to rust. Could be a bit cheaper in that colour scheme though.

I always dismissed the 210's until I was drawn to my current e55. I worked on the basis that if its not a heap of rust by now its not going to dissolve overnight. Lets be honest we are not rust averse having owned\owning 124 as they can rust with the best of them. As mentioned some colours seem to be effected with rot more than others, definitely don't dismiss them though.

I really want a CL, when I'm bored of the Volvo I may have to buy one.

You gotta go for that, looks brilliant in that colour scheme - so refreshing to see some colour in a car rather than the boring sea of insipid and dull shades available now

I like this post. I drive a rusty W124... I guess I'm familiar with the rust areas of the W124 and they are a lot older... so the more modern 210s rusting all over the place puts me off.

I think that's a great colour combination though.

Can you imagine ordering that new back in the day, waiting for it to be delivered. Everyone else ordered silver with a black interior.

I think i'd be very happy when I collected that!
