Gents, I've uploaded a bundle of pics to my photobucket page (a few pages in) that show the barge refurb before, during and after:

Enjoy.

I'm in contact with the seller about this one at the moment, I am trying to get a bit more info on the service history but otherwise it looks like one of the only well cared for examples currently available.
I had a 190 once but bought the wrong example. These cars are great but they need to be loved - even the youngest 190e is over 20 years old now.

Harry - looks like a great job, with very good finish to the paint - and the nicely Bilt Hamber (I presume) protected underside should keep it like that for some time. http://s724.photobucket.com/user/harjeshkular/libr...
Enjoy.
Picked up the "2003 320i Estate"
- It was a 316i
- lovely old gent but his youngest son has been driving for past 3 years.
- windscreen cracked
- wheels and tyres all shot
- rusty wings
- no oil in engine and knocking like it has been run out!
- Diff whine
- 180k miles
- front wishbones knocking both sides very badly
- airbag light on
Felt really sorry for the old guy who couldn't physically make the walk down his drive to the car so just chucked him the £150 cash and got it out of his hair.
Moving on.
Love the W210 in red. Echo all the comments about them being great cars, especially non silver ones.
CL looks nice. Like most expensive MB systems, they are worth every penny to have. ABC is great. Genuinely good ride quality without compromising on handling at all.
600SEL is right up my street, one of the best colour combos too. Shame about the brabus style wheels on it IMO, but at least he has originals.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 HO is a good old motor, but they can be picked up for a grand or more less than that. I bought mine 3 years ago for £800 and it only needed tyres, rear brakes and a service in my 18 months of use as a 3rd car. It was advertised at £1400 but haggled him down due to shot tyres and rear brakes, along with very scuffed bumpers and more than a couple of parking dings. It was perfectly capable on some pretty slippery and deep mud when I needed it. If I had kept it longer or used it more frequently I would have done some rear suspension mounts as well since it did have a little side to side wiggle at low speeds.

2006 E500 estate for £3500 post haggle, decent colour scheme to my eyes.
Potential Bargain I reckon.

Pretty good = very good, superb, acceptable, not bad, which is it? They look excellent in the pics, but I've never seen one in the flesh. Is this a chap from whom one could buy unseen?Time for another pic of the day that totally demolishes thread budget (sorry, but it's kind of thread relevant & I'm sure you'll like it):

These guys have epic stuff for barge fans, albeit a tad over budget!

Looks lovely - you must be very pleased.
Anyone on here got an old S320 or 500? Don't know what the W number is but the ones around 99/2000 onwards, with a modern-ish looking front end but the older style body and boot.
I can't believe how cheap these are now, with reasonable mileage and history you can pick them up for 1-2k.
Anything I should watch out for if I go for it? Aside from rust ofc.

If I'd seen that before buying the Volvo, that would probably be on my drive. 2006 E500 estate for £3500 post haggle, decent colour scheme to my eyes.

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet... Looks quite nice, not much information in the advert though.

I got it! £1400 quid. 2.0 turbo T4 engine (manual gearbox), drives very nicely, interior lovely, sport lux spec so quite nice bits inc xenon (hid) headlights, leather seats. Quite pokey, just drove 200 miles home in it. Radio's a bit old (oem). I really like it. Not too massive like some of their estates either - to me it's a nice compromise in size.
I was toying with the idea of buying that but was firmly shut down by my better half who informed me she wouldn't be driving an 'old man's car'. I asked her what would suit an 'old woman' then which didn't appear to go down too well. Good luck with the T4- get it remapped!

Negative - Out of budget.
Positive - Very red. V12. Not a Merc.

- Rust
- Air suspension
- Gearbox atf changes in service history
Apart from those 3, these can suffer from electronic grenlins, some of which are caused by a weak battery. Some will just appear with no warning and age/mileage/service history will not protect you from some of those issues.
53 plate onwards had massive updates, most are not visually obvious.

Sitting a bit low at the rear? These are on my watch list for next barge now they are falling into budget. Starting to get the itch to change from the v70 but it continues to provide sterling service so will probably run it through the winter.2006 E500 estate for £3500 post haggle, decent colour scheme to my eyes.

Absolutely, I'm loving it and trying hard not to be too precious about it. Still booked it in for a full gtechniq detail after Christmas though. Looks lovely - you must be very pleased.
Can't recommend the workmanship highly enough, he's a nice chap to boot.
