Looks great, you much be very pleased with it. If you're referring to 'The Man' in the north east, I'd very much like his contact details please. PM if you prefer.

Goodness me, that chap really does some good work, doesn't he?
Looks lovely - you must be very pleased.
Absolutely, I'm loving it and trying hard not to be too precious about it. Still booked it in for a full gtechniq detail after Christmas though.

Can't recommend the workmanship highly enough, he's a nice chap to boot.
Can't go wrong with gtechniq stuff. What you having done to it? My E65 has had C1 and the original exo on for a while now and it's great stuff! Also got that on the wheels, C4 on the trim and G1 on the glass biggrin

Sitting a bit low at the rear? These are on my watch list for next barge now they are falling into budget. Starting to get the itch to change from the v70 but it continues to provide sterling service so will probably run it through the winter.
Nope, that's how they all sit. Being a 500 it has full airmatic all round instead of just air self levelling on the rear. Ride height can be easily adjusted by anyone with star.

If you are looking for one there aren't many about at all, especially not at this price in a decent colour.

I'm even tempted myself, it even has 7 seats this one. I don't know why I need it or how I would justify it to the wife though?

The 53 onwards thing really grates with me: I ordered our w220 s500 when the "facelift" was announced with delivery in March 03. When they announce a facelift you would expect that it's "future proofed" until the end of the production run, not heavily upgraded under a year later!furious
52 plate on did get a good amount of updates internally and externally as well as a few hidden electronics.

But I know what you mean, the DVD comand and galvanised bodywork are biggies that should have been brought in at the same time as the other facelift parts. The other behind the scenes revisions do happen on most cars almost every year in reality. An upgraded headlight switch or a superior seat occupancy sensor seem to change from year to year these days.

I looked at a part a month or so ago that had 14 superseded part numbers listed on the epc. Can't for the life of me remember what now.

7 seats definitely a bonus. I like the light coloured interior too. Hmmm food for thought......

I'm a tiny bit confused with the above. I have my eye on the couple of cheap S600s currently about:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-MERCEDES-S600-Bi-TU...
reg date: 11/10/2002

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262159947807?_trksid=p20...
Reg date: 13/02/2003

I always thought that at least in the 600s case, the Bi Turbo ones were the facelift model? They all seem to come with the DVD command (I find it the easiest way to dismiss non turbo 600s)

Are you guys saying that there was another major revision that would have come after the facelift, engine change and Sat Nav introduction that the above cars would have missed but a slightly later car would have?

Way too much £ for the Jeep
Without a doubt. I wouldn't pay more than £2000. My uncle had a lower mileage one that he traded in a few years ago (about five maybe) against a brand new Q7 and iirc he got £1700. That said, it was worth more than that

Haven't managed to open the links but I'm guessing from the reg dates that they will not have the DVD comand.

The wide-screen comand with the CD slot above the screen is effectively a spruced up version of the original comand with the smaller screen in the pre facelift car.

The DVD comand has a separate dvd nav drive in the boot and the DVD slot for mp3 or video dvds is hidden behind the motorised screen, as is a cassette drive.

The DVD holds all of Europe for nav and is a lot faster to calculate routes and generally operate.
The CD version will just hold UK maps and is quite laggy but fine when you get used to it and once the route is loaded it operates smoothly.

The earlier version does have a 3.5mm aux input in the glovebox whereas the DVD version has no provision for it and very costly aftermarket digital adapters are required.

The other aspects are not so important as all 600s come with Bose sound anyway.

Another way to identify is that the early version has 2 rotary knobs whereas the late version has one rotary knob only.

Have opened links.

Both cars are post facelift but pre major electronic/galvanised bodywork revision.

The second link has the rare and highly sought after forged alloys. They were an expensive option even for the bi turbo V12.
The 5 spoke difdas on the black car are great lightweight wheels as well but they are dime a dozen on the W220.

Screens in headrests are not oem.
Oem rear seat entertainment came with a screen on a bracket mounted to the back of the centre console.

The black car has the spec advantage of distronic but I don't enjoy driving the bi turbo with distronic on. If you set it to 80 and a car pulls out in front of you doing 60 it does a reasonable job of slowing you to their pace. Not as smoothly as I would do but it does the job. When the car doing 60 pulls over, the car rockets back to 80 too aggressively and the car ends up doing 90 before it slows itself back to maintain 80.
Distronic works perfectly on a 500, it's calibrated really nicely and operates smoothly. The bi turbo just isn't so effective.

I was surprised when we got the 216 CL600 to find that it's almost as bad. I was hoping they'd fix the calibration on the newer model!

There is something about the advert that does not fill me with h confidence. Maybe it is the setting or just the lack of detail. I prefer the look of this

I agree with you about ad etc. But that's when the best bargains are to be had.

As to that other link. Colours not as good to my eyes, It's not a V8, spec not as good and it's a lot more money.
It does have fewer miles and is presented well though.

I think you are right about a potential bargain. Fortunately not close enough to me to take a look as I don't even need another car! What am I doing on this thread again!! I think it should come with some sort of warning!!!

I agree with V12 AMG. The cars are quite different, and the V8 would be my choice.
I prefer the colours of the second one you posted, but as an all-round package the 500 would be hard to beat for me.

I really wish someone would buy that Range Rover from a few days back .. a FFRR has been on my wish list for like, forever, but the potential bork factor always has me running for the hills, with my tail between my legs. frown
In the meantime, I came across this, and hadn't realised these were getting this cheap? Surely within thread budget with some good haggling skills? 4x4 3.5 V6 to smoke around in, with Honda reliability, and by the sounds of it, all the toys imaginable .. somebody talk me out of it, as it's localish to me. Which makes a bloody change from all these motors you lot keep posting that are in the deep south! wink

kapitanlanzaam - You're a Volvo man. Should the V70 T5 with sat nav come with a remote control? There is the control on the steering weheel, but no remote; should I have one?

Are they available second hand or only available from dealers?

That is seriously tempting, no nav but on these I've heard that's not necessarily a bad thing... I pretty much cycle past it everyday on the way to the station... coupled with the fact I've been thinking of what to replace the 330ci with that's half practical and will comfortably tow my 2t car trailer... D3 was on my radar but think I might have to venture up there tomorrow morning to have a look scratchchin
Jeez, what did the dealer pay for it if he is punting it for 6.5k?

I really do like this, wonder how difficult it may be to sell on afterwards. Also been looking at the older Honda Legends in the 'Best of Bargin Basement@ thread.

I got it! £1400 quid. 2.0 turbo T4 engine (manual gearbox), drives very nicely, interior lovely, sport lux spec so quite nice bits inc xenon (hid) headlights, leather seats. Quite pokey, just drove 200 miles home in it. Radio's a bit old (oem). I really like it. Not too massive like some of their estates either - to me it's a nice compromise in size.

Well done. That sounded like an excellent one from the forum write up and they're a nice car IMO. Colour's lovely - is it Maya gold? launch colour on the S60...

I too really, really like this. It's the kind of car I thought you haven't been able to buy for 20 years now: a grown up saloon car with plenty of go which doesn't shout about it. No doubt it'll be built like the proverbial, as well.
