Thanks all for the E430 appreciation. (It's not metallic, so I'm guessing my particular shade of doom blue is Midnight - too bloody cold outside to go and check the code right now.) Difficult to imagine it finding much love elsewhere! Certainly not in my street, where I'm getting the same kind of what's-gone-wrong looks I last had when I rolled up in a Maestro some years ago.
Seems to be doing better mpg than I expected, though there isn't even an onboard computer to confirm this. Still plenty in the tank at any rate - the vendor left it three-quarters full (when I saw the petrol gauge needle in the listing photos I sensed I was onto a winner).
Great buy, almost as sexy as my blue diesel estate Seems to be doing better mpg than I expected, though there isn't even an onboard computer to confirm this. Not to be a doom-monger but I would check those spring perches when you get the chance, they can look ok at first glance but fester away under the mastic sealant so you need to pick at them a bit. I had mine replaced for £150 so not the end of the world if they are.
Seems too good to be true, especially given the vendor's summary of his ownership: 'I only used it in the winter.'

Tidy looking big Volvo for not too much wedge (and a £650 850 posted on the best-of-the-basement thread from the same search).
Great colour and looks in good nick. Yummy velour too. Tidy looking big Volvo for not too much wedge (and a £650 850 posted on the best-of-the-basement thread from the same search).
But ... manual and a bit 'hearing aid' internally.

All the SE bits are nice things to have.
Can't believe these are dropping within a good haggle of budget

I like that colour too. But 2.4l and only 140bhp? So it's thirsty and slow? But ... manual and a bit 'hearing aid' internally.
My parents had a 170hp SE from new when I was a mere slip of a teenager, great car, topped out at 140 on the autobahn with 1000 miles on the clock!

Oh.
My.
God.
I think something just happened in my trousers.
Although it is just possible the turn-over lights on my old Opel GT would give the clamshells a run in the coolness stakes
Lot No. 772
Auctioned on Saturday, August 3, 2013
Sold for $ 85,250 / £58883.87 British Pound http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature-lots...
These are not in sub £5K barges, and I hate everyone, for even by slight suggesting I could ever afford one. But i'll get over it

I was a huge fan of American cars at the time and possessed the kind of 'beardage' only ever seen in extreme youth and the Smoker barge thread - for me it was American cars; here it is Mercedes.
That's when I saw it - partially hidden at the back of a used car lot was a metallic green Buick Riviera with a right hand drive conversion by Ruddspeed. A VERY rare car. It was in reasonable nick from what I could see - and the garage owner didn't have a clue what it was, had been stuck with it and just wanted rid. The car was CHEAP!
I was hugely excited - I had the money saved for it and decided to buy it. Then the problems began! My late dad utterly forbid me to have the car and also forbid anyone to help me by going down to down and get it (I couldn't drive - I had not passed my 'test) - and we had a huge argument during which he explained I would never be able to buy it. He had a great strength of personality, so that was the end of it. I suspect he thought that if I had something I liked it would sap my motivation. Sadly he had that backwards.
One thing he was right about is I will never own one - they became expensive and I can't afford one now! I do wonder what happened to that car though.

On the other hand, some people pay that amount in interest on PCP finance for their dreary Eurobox.

Sounds like your dad wasn't a car enthusiast , neither was mine , he managed to make 2 Volvo (slow)estates and a Subaru Forester ( much better but his first words when he overtook something were this is too fast) last from 1976 to when he gave up driving in 2013.One thing he was right about is I will never own one - they became expensive and I can't afford one now! He'd have done exactly the same as your dad, killed a dream if it involved a car
A few years ago he gave me £5000 so I went out and spent it on a XK8 , he went nuts but I was 47 then so he couldn't stop me , the pleasure that car gave me was immense
Next week I'm picking up a Maserati bought with the lump sum from my pension thanks to the government changing the rules for 55 year olds.
I'm fairly certain he'll go to his grave not knowing I've bought it because he lives 200 miles away and I couldn't stand the look of disappointment on his face
Luckily that's a gene I didn't inherit

(£300 for a second hand gearbox and the same again to fit, I'd have thought?)
