This "shauffeur-owned" S500 is back, no bids at £2,500. As the vendor has been messed around twice I'm guessing he'd take a very cheeky offer...

Oh dear, I'm not thanking you for posting that! Only last Friday I was torn on whether to bid or not. This barge game really is like an illness!
"Selling for an ill friend".

'course you are, swee'eart.
Does "messed around twice" mean "When they came to collect it wasn't as described"?
Nice but something rather fishy...

Do you have a restoration thread for this? - If so, please post a link, I would like t see it. smile
I don't have a thread as such (it's been done so well before by r129sl that I didn't deem it necessary), but I've got some before/during/after pics here:

Thanks for that - I will feast my eyes on them later when I can give them the proper amount of time! biggrin

For me at least, the disappointing bit is that ///M is now deemed right for a 2.2 ton LWB limousine with reclining seats and Maccy's tables.

It was a shame when AMG did it, but they were always a bit 'straight-line hero'.

M was always supposed to be sharp.
I get what you're saying, but with a quick de-badge, and putting the suspension into the waftiest setting, surely it just becomes a hugely fast barge?

If it's the only 760i version they're going to offer, I'll take it. But if there are going to be other petrol versions, perhaps they will be better?
No gripes about the car, I'm sure it is incredible (as long as it's soft enough). I'm just a miserable owd branding fan.

///M has been ruined long before that - if anything it has a place on the back of that car more than the diesel repmobiles it also festoons.

But you're absolutely right that it's just aping the AMG-style watering down by putting the badge on everything marginally away from boring spec.

However, a twin-turbo V12 which is pinched from the Rolls Royce stable (and therefore already been optimised for mega refinement) is worth putting up with the dilution of a once-great performance moniker.

Try to find one.
This is something I hoped BMW would never do. But they have gone and done it.

Any way you cut it, The S63/S65 have this market segment all sewn up.

Keenly waiting for the W221 S63's to depreciate into thread levels.

Its been almost 10 years since they went on sale hasnt it?

How much longer?
I think it's very short-sighted to say that won't be a comfortable car.

Surely that is a vehicle well and truly in the spirit of this thread - a huge, comfy limo with a ridiculous engine?

The W140 600s we've been fawning over on previous pages are no different in spirit to that machine.

I never did allude to anything about comfort levels.

SpeckledJim gets exactly what i meant.

Creating an M760Li XDrive Excellence, (There really is such a thing) Is just further dilution of the //M Marque.

Shows BMW is chasing Mercedes in a Niche that they pretty much own.

Revealing this model just days after the Alpina B7 reveal is also quite confusing.

Regardless of what's under the bonnet I beg to differ.
V12 AMG is talking about owning a traders policy as opposed to a car.
scratchchin Interesting idea. Must look into that... Do you need to demonstrate that you really are a trader - or just have lots of cars?
Ah, I apologise.
I'd still argue a traders policy is more of a hallmark of a very understanding wife!

I think as long as the M760Li rides well it doesn't really matter to be honest. One of the criticisms the S63 had was it was too firm a ride to be driven in.... Something Theo Pavitiz (or however you spell it) said, and he ended up with a 760Li to be wafted around in for a while.

Super shiney finish on a superb car but this photo (above) illustrates a feature that really irritates me about MB cars (or their dealers). Why do they insist on fixing the rear number plate with four screws?
It's a German thing. The four screws are supposed to affix a number plate holder. The pressed German plate - which gets changed each time the car changes ownership - clips in and out, but the holder remains for the life of the vehicle, or until it gets brittle, snaps and needs replacemen, which is more usual.

Lovely finish on that W124, Harry, by theway.

Yep, my CL has the plastic holder and the number plate slots in. Which reminds me I need some new number plates.

It was indeed. Got it for £150 due to an offer, so great value. Very pleased: it really makes the most of the bodywork investment last year.
Wow. It looks completely awesome Harry. thumbup
Harry, it looks great, and is further testimony to the quality of "The Man's" work - nice "straight" reflections are a real achievement after so much work.
Harry, it's a plus one from me too. Looks new!

I'd agree with that. The W220 and C215 in AMG form are too firm for my liking. That's why the S600 with a bi turbo V12 is the only one to have. AMG power levels (and then some) but no comfort or refinement is sacrificed.

The CL55K is still hell of a weekend car though.

Right you are!

Anyone can get a traders policy, if you struggle, just try another broker.
A friend just told his broker that he gets bored of cars quickly and always buys new ones without selling the old ones as quickly. He put 6 cars on his policy when he first took it out and it saved him £1500 over the admiral multic car policy he had previously.

From memory, rule of thumb is that if you have 3 or more cars then a traders policy will usually work out better for you.

It was here with those photos about June or July last year and was pointed out to BigBen who was looking for a 560 at the time. It was £5695 from memory, and has dropped to £3995 on C&C until the seller tried eBay at the 3.5k level and still can't find a buyer- his auction ended earlier this week. Which surprises given the lovely colour combo and the tints should be easy to bin off, it now looks a bargain if it is as described.

I know about German plates (have lived there) but this is the UK, plates stay with the car yet manufacturers still use cheap and nasty self-tappers to fix them on. I followed a 64 reg Mercedes this afternoon which was just the same.

Are the plate surrounds illegal to use over here? Can't understand why they aren't bundled in with the cars in the 1st place.

I just love it when some people have such emotive opinions on cars they would never buy new, second, or probably even third hand. BMW have targetted an area of the market that someone else is currently unchallenged in. It happens, it's called business, get over it.

This isn't aimed at most posters in here, by the way, but sometimes people need to be told how it is.

When I first saw this it was £8995. When I posted it 7-10 days ago it was within thread budget. Now, its not. There is difficulty in pricing, and there's a seller who is a tool.
