I just love it when some people have such emotive opinions on cars they would never buy new, second, or probably even third hand. BMW have targetted an area of the market that someone else is currently unchallenged in. It happens, it's called business, get over it.

This isn't aimed at most posters in here, by the way, but sometimes people need to be told how it is.
I reckon you don't love it.

I genuinely do. There are good posters on this thread, many of them, but that doesn't include all of them. Shall I comment on how you feel about things?

Not sure why you're being like that and I also really dont want to get involved in an argument on what is one of my favourite PH threads, but are people not allowed to stick up for modern cars on this thread?

Yes it does.
Sometimes. The listing in question is a bit ropey in many ways but I don't get that vibe off it.

Regardless of what's under the bonnet I beg to differ.
V12 AMG is talking about owning a traders policy as opposed to a car.
scratchchin Interesting idea. Must look into that... Do you need to demonstrate that you really are a trader - or just have lots of cars?
Ah, I apologise.
I'd still argue a traders policy is more of a hallmark of a very understanding wife!
Right you are!

Anyone can get a traders policy, if you struggle, just try another broker.
A friend just told his broker that he gets bored of cars quickly and always buys new ones without selling the old ones as quickly. He put 6 cars on his policy when he first took it out and it saved him £1500 over the admiral multic car policy he had previously.

From memory, rule of thumb is that if you have 3 or more cars then a traders policy will usually work out better for you.
I think I'll look into that, would you recommend anyone in particular or I suppose more importantly who to avoid.

Does an interior get any better than that?
When I first saw this it was £8995. When I posted it 7-10 days ago it was within thread budget. Now, its not. There is difficulty in pricing, and there's a seller who is a tool.
Different cars.

Same car, was £4995 Sunday 7th, page 358 (just before the retrorides weird Hyundai thing turned up). I have also posted an E66 750Li this week, also at £6k.

When I first saw the '38"I thought with a little calming the V12 on LPG could be great, but his pricing has been all over the shop...

I'm no BMW or MB groupie, but I really, really liked this one. I would happily have it on the fleet, but having just sneaked a couple of Jags past Mission Control there's no way I'd get way with any more. Unfortunately.

The last time a BMW made a positive impression on me was an ex-girlfriend's father's 635CSI back in the 80s.
My mum had a Citroen Ami8, the CSI was from another world smile

Clearly the start of a slippery slope. Those bloody V12TT Mercs sound like fun too.

If you can get Purple past Mission Control then you'll have my utmost respect! laugh I got a £44 old NAD Cassette deck through today without being noticed...but a purple E38 would be worthy of a Croix de Guerre!

I've managed to slip around the 'Darkside of the Moon' and whilst Houston was temporarily incommunicado, for a brief few hours, mysteriously found that another asteroid had been sucked into my orbit and has now landed on my surface today.

Inexplicably (and very suddenly), I now find myself staring up from the foot of yet another huge mountain-peak to climb!

What is wrong with me?

Nothing. That's lovely, and I dare say once you've had your cleansing way with it it'll be properly stunning.

Excellent work Derin.

Perhaps you should consider not selling this 540 once you make it really nice though?!

Derin, you've got it bad...

Keep us updated on this one.

I'm trying to give up. I have been offered a really tidy w140 S420. For free. Of course it needs a little "TLC": don't we all? But it is green black over unmarked black leather with an amazing spec (SWB, Bose, heated front and rear seats, memory front seats, sun blind, parking sensors, 8 hole wheels, glass sunshine roof), full history, just over 100k miles.

Mechanically it needs: new right-side cat, discs and pads, shocks, front ball joints, probably some suspension bushes, air con control unit, parking sensor. That I can remember.

Cosmetically it needs... well, cosmetically it needs a full shoot. Two front wings, repairs around the rear arches and wings. It could do with front and rear screens, too, but they would have to wait. It needs a rear lamp cluster, too. But the wheels are OK and I think the tyres too are fine for the time being.

I've known it for six or seven years. The second picture fairly accurately shows the condition.

I'm thinking of this: http://www.sturm-automobile.de/aktuell/album2/01an...

Congratulations Derin! I second Oa: just keep it this time!

A 140 for free? We all know where this is going r129....

Thanks for the kind comments on the s124 guys. It's getting close to the end of the rolling refurb project now, and I'm starting to get a bit precious about it. So much that I'm considering getting a shed daily driver. Thoughts on this please?

Harry, your s124 looks mint! But you've just got to use it, otherwise, what's the point? I remember when I picked mine up. As I drove it home, I felt everyone else on the road was aiming at me. But if you must by a daily banger, the w210 E300 TD I suspect would be a great car. Very smooth engine, plenty of power, pretty invisible, still traditional Merc comfort. I think I'll get the 140, SORN it and just take it very slowly this year as and when funds allow.

I think this car popped up on the thread not so long ago, up for auction in Poole on 29th Jan with a guide price of £5500-6200 and mileage of 83k;

Was preciously with a dealer in Derby at £8k declaring a £3k reduction and with 53k miles;

Mileage discrepancy aside what do thread it's think it might be worth?
What did it go for? It has turned up 50miles down the road from me, asking price £10grand! And the mileage is back to 53k, "double checked on a road test" whatever that means!

Edit: it sold for £6,120.

If you have the time and means, then why not? The 4.2 is capable if not particularly quicker than a six cylinder. I am not really sure why MB offered the 4.2 but that's another matter.

As you well know, quite a few bits can be sourced from Carl at 140 Spares and service stuff is pretty much just the usual M119. I suspect the rear screen will be the big one but they all go after time. Mine is starting to.
