I'm not keen on boy-racer addenda, but that car looks good to me for less than 4 grand.
MOT gap (on this number at least) from 12 to 15, but nothing scarey based on what's visible, and there's a new MOT offered by the vendor.
That looks quite nice, E30s are definitely verging into unreachable territory, so that looks acceptable.http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C710095

Given the way all E30s seem to have moved in the last year that looks like a good one at that price. M-tech 2 kit looks good IMHO...much nicer than the M-tech 1.http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C710095

I've always loved these, it's almost like now is their cosworth moment (I.e. I can just about afford one and I would be stupid not to get one now while I can before they go the way of the cosworth).http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C710095

I'm a massive fan of the W220 but nothing is less appealing than a 1999 car.
Care to explain why please?I know first model years have their quirks but my E46 is a first model year but has been quite reliable (Knock on wood)
The W220 received part revisions almost every few months throughout it's life and then big updates in 2002 and again late in 2003.
I wouldn't buy an early car unless it was for peanuts.
Compared to a W220, the E46 is as basic as a car can get, with little to go wrong.
A great car it is too. The W203 is not a worthy competitor in my opinion.
I prefer the early 4 pot M43 engine to the later N42 petrol as well!

Quite nice!
The W140/220 and E38 seem to be quite the recurring theme here.
I wonder how the both compare when it comes to Ride Quality, Comfort as well as cost of ownership.
Also, why are used prices in the UK so much lower than other parts of continental Europe?
Comfort and ride quality? W220 every time. The W140/220 and E38 seem to be quite the recurring theme here.

With all 3 cars being at such a high level of refinement, it really is splitting hairs.
The E38 and W220 both feel a lot more connected to the road from the drivers seat compared to the W140, but that can be part of the charm of the older W140.
Cost of ownership? Buy a decent example and any of the 3 has the potential to surprise you with big bills.

She was just as advertised (S500, Dec '02, 85k, still got 4+ mm on rears and 2.7mm on fronts) with everything I've tried so far over the first tankful in proper working order (she's only ever visited MB Main Stealer). Actually - not quite: I replaced batteries in the key cards, someone had put them in the wrong way round! But they work too
The only real question is why, ohwhyohwhyohwhy, did I live with the Shed (Multichronic A6) for so long 13 years/130k.
The S500 is more comfortable than any chairs we have at home! Ride quality a bit floaty on some surfaces (but I've since found that button too) and it follows my principle desire in any vehicle, power to get out of a situation even quicker than you could get in it.
I'd happily drive to Sicilly in her...
Sure - we can expect some bills that rate highly on most people's BIGNESS scale, but hey! You only live once!!!

ell, I cannot seem to move for seeing W220s now, since my "Blind Date" with my new little darling nearly a fortnight ago.

Very nice. Please please please tackle those lenses. I think a Capri is probably the most disappointing car I have ever driven when the degree of anticipation is contrasted with reality - there are far worse cars, but nothing had been as lusted over as a Capri by my then 21 year old self. I recall just wanting the test drive to be over.
Yes. I drove one of the run out models. Crap then and age can not have improved them. Quite bizarre is the following for them.CharlesdeGaulle said:

Thread mantra! Car looks great - glad you're enjoying it.

The 'thread mantra' has prompted me to do a quick update Re. my recent 540i touring purchase.
Have driven about 400 miles so far and it's bloody fantastic! I am loving it.... It covers ground effortlessly, and in terms of 'booting it' I've not driven it anywhere near 'driving it hard' yet.
The comfort seats are lovely.
It wafts along beautifully and should one wish to press on a little the m-sport suspension does an admirable job of controlling it in the bendy bits, although most of the time I've just been enjoying the waft.
The only issue so far is that sometimes the radio appears to be on but there is no reception, and then randomly it starts picking up the radio station again. Still no radio reception just means i listen the the lovely burble...
Pics to follow when it's less filthy....

How much could one expect to pay for a nicely maintained S500 of a similar vintage? I have a hankering for a big merc again after straying and buying my first BMW last year!
...as some people worked out here (Fleabay!) My winning bid was £4,127.- had it been a classified, I accept I probably paid a bit of a premium over what I might have tried to haggle it down to.However, I was swayed by condition, condition and condition as far as I could judge. (And - slightly alarmingly - I still couldn't tell an S class from an E, or a C for that matter! Gut instinct that it was in my risk appetite with a possible two-year plus ownership-horizon)

Absolutely - any particular tips, Oh Wise One?Putting together an ongoing management plan over next few weeks...that's high up (along with RTFM (again))
As long as it's got some abrasion, but not too much, and you don't get it too hot or run it dry I'm sure you'll have a good result. Lots of videos on youtube about it.
Don't worry after 5 minutes when it looks like you've totally and utterly ruined it - keep going! Might take an hour or more to get them sparkling, but it will transform the front of the car.
For extra satisfaction do them one at a time so that you can have a real comparison photo!
