And someone somewhere with an XJS will want the wheels.
exactly, in classic barge flipping style might even make a small bit of pocket change in the wheel trading.
You two have persuaded me, and it's my birthday tomorrow. Now, where's my wallet?

Despite adoring my w124 E300 diesel for its faithful longevity and despite it having a super smooth NA six-cylinder diesel, in these days of cheap petrol I can't help wish it were an E320.

Which somewhat explains the S420: the need for quiet refinement and big(ish) power. I have commissioned some work. The brakes (discs and pads), shocks and ball joints are all being replaced, hopefully this week. Then I'm just going to drive it for a few months, try to save some money, and then embark upon full scale titivation. Although I'm still not sure whether it is mine yet.

Kewl. I've had some dealings with the seller and they struck me as half decent, which is a rare thing in used car land.

I love that turquoise saloon in the readers' cars thread.

We've had that before so it's been for sale for a few months at least. I like it

I'm very much in a Jaguar/Daimler sort of mood today. How about this for a period colour?

If only I had the time. I could beat Singer to it and start the same treatment on old jaaaags..

Something simple like this V12 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016... with a mere 90k miles would be a good bet.
Incidentally, does that read like a private ad to you? Doesn't to me.

Car looks nice.

KWE already do that, albeit a bit less extreme than Singer's treatment of old porkers.

bks! Just when you don't need it!

Went to pull away in the E38 today and immediately thought something doesn't feel and sound right. Only went 10-20 yards and turned it around back on to the drive.

Snapped FRONT coil spring! And in such a fashion right through the middle of it that a) I can't get out the two broken halves and b)the car has dropped so that the suspension leg cup rubs against the inner aspect of the tyre tread.

Whizzed over to my Indie in the A140 who is thankfully only a couple of miles away. He gave me a space-saver wheel and tyre which seemed like a good idea in order for me to at least limp the E38 over to him. I get back now and try to put it on before the light fades completely and...bks...the 728i SPORT has great big Brembo calipers on the front that the space-saver can't accommodate! bangheadbangheadbanghead
You have clearly angered the barge gods, a selling of a new, fuel efficient vehicle is required to win favour back with them. smile

Unlucky, big brakes are a pain, especially when trying to find a quick set of temporary rims for a refurb etc.

Re: Definition of a Barge,

From thread direction, I take it Diesels are frowned upon?

Surprising lack of 730D's and S320CDI's
You often find the diesel models cost more, have higher mileage and tend to have a lower spec (company car etc)..... And given the choice between a diesel with circa 250bhp vs a petrol with anywhere from 300-500bhp for similar price..... Well.....
You're all correct and there are a lot of days I regret going from a big petrol to my 320cdi as my daily driver.

I try and consol myself with the fact that it has more torque than your 745i and the equivalent S500 but it really doesn't help much, especially as the cost of fuel has dropped so dramatically.

Oh well...it does have it's merits, just not many of them appeal to the crowd here.

On the plus side, the car is fully kitted out with almost every option and had very reasonable miles on it, but finding a diesel like that is a needle in a haystack as you quite rightly point out.
Having other large petrol engined cars available keeps my sanity.

If it's the one I posted, I have engaged with the seller. He has a viewer tomorrow, but if it doesn't go will let me know.

Didn't someone purchase a cheap as chips E38 in need of TLC? A donor parts car might be good for him?

It may well have more torque, but seeing as though it doesn't rev as highly, the gearing is therefore different.... And because of that, despite more torque, it doesn't produce as much power, in fact, only about 2/3 of the power. Power being the thing which actually leads to acceleration and top speed hehe

I'm not helping am I!
