Slightly offtopic, but has anyone else bought the first edition of Modern Classics magazine.

Not a bad little read for £2.99, although a fair chunk taken up by classifieds (no bad thing some may say)

Nice pics from the E24 v 560 v 928 article, albeit on recycled paper so not glossy!

I bought it! It's OK. A bit thin, really. I like the absurd article about how much various modern classics will be worth in 2020. Lots pf stuff about safer than money in the bank, guaranteed to increase in value etc. All point to a collapse in classic car prices.

I picked up a copy from Sainsbury's. Good read, but I did wonder about the valuations on that guide.

I loved looking through the classifieds on the back pages.

What does it say about XJS?

This could be extremely useful spousal-kryptonite if I can use it to demonstrate beyond all reasonable shrug that my leaky Jag is actually yet another manifestation of my entrepreneurial gift.

Agreed it's a bit thin and yes, browsing the classifieds reminded me of scanning the paper Autotrader!

I ignore most valuation chit chat but take your point

Wasn't someone after a 140 the other day?

I reckon this could be a good bet. Gravel drive and all.

I have this on my watch list.
Seems like an honest car.
Not many around on a 'T'? The boot is almost shut properly too!

Spoke to the seller today who seemed like a nice chap.
One or two rust bubbles on the front wings but not too bad.
I was concerned about the photo showing the bonnet not sitting properly but he assured me that the bonnet just wasn't closed fully.
He will email more photos tomorrow along with service history details.

Ah! Good thinking! wink

So there [i]is[/is] actually some value to those sorts of articles after all!

I have 800 miles to do this weekend - w124 or r129? I'm looking forward to it!

The w124 will click over the 180k mark, but I can use the hardtop on the 500sl on the way and take it off (visiting family) and run about with the soft top over the weekend... Hmm

Apparently, this has had a kompressor engine upgrade from AMG. The only problem is that it appears to be missing the compressor.

Do you think the seller included the well padded seat in that pic on purpose?

I'm using my 500SL this weekend for long runs, not taking the hard top, probably the last weekend of decent top down weather for a while

Apart from all the obvious issues with this car, it even has the wrong profile rear tyres on it.

I don't know how they plan on selling that.
