My late grandfather had a 500SEC and an Austin Montego Countryman. In about 1993 or 1994 he replaced them both with an E220. That was a big disappointment to me at the time frown

It has the valuable staggered TTE 18" Wheels. Very disireable to Supra/Soarer fans and worth £600+ alone, even in that state.

Yeah I was pretty sure the wheels were valuable on their own, thanks for confirming.

I like things a bit odd / unusual and I really fancied taking a look at that one but having contacted the guy he already has viewings booked. I suspect it will be gone by tomorrow morning. Shame as he is just around the corner from me really.

They have a certain road presence, those early Lexus 300s, especially on those wheels. Having read a period group test recently though they are pretty heavy (1700kg+) and so quite slow with the non-turbo Supra six and a slushbox. The road test had 0-60 somewhere in the nines.

I'm sure they're very reliable and high quality cars though.

apparently not, the seller is busy tonight... I guess even car dealers want Sunday evening off biglaugh
The other buyer is supposed to be going first thing in the morning. I'm phoning back early morning to see if it is still there.

I've no idea if it could be considered a classic or not really? I just think it appears to be a cheap barge with an appealing 'look' to it... something a bit oddball that you don't see every day. Wouldn't imagine it would be particularly fast given the power:weight and slush box.

Nice but not a big fan of the ALPINA sticker on the front spoiler, is that an original thing?

You could get a deco kit for Alpinas but I'm not sure that included the lettering. That car is not an Alpina in any way shape or form anyway.
While I'm here.. this looks a peach smile
Probably worth buying to sell back to the merc dealer bit by bit minus a restocking charge if all the receipts are still there...

..nice wheels, but essentially just a clean and high mileage E38 740i for £3K "buy it now".

There was one of these without the Alpina bits only making a grand when I looked first thing this morning....these big old beemers do represent great value at the moment.

Personally I am tempted by the Lexus LS430 locally to me up for £2175. Likely to cost less in the long run than a 7 series.....
