A friend of mine (has a car garage) has a XF portfolio S for sale. 112k miles on an 09 plate. Will be somewhere between 11k and 12k depending how much he has spent once he has finished prepping it.

Alloys refurbed, full set of discs and pads, 4 x new J rated pirelli P-zero's hes going right through it.

I know they are generally pretty reliable except dpf issues. I do 15k per year + lots of which on the motorway.

How reliable are they far north of 100k miles? Ideally id keep it for at least 18 months and dont want it to be worthless at the end or full of enormous bills.

Can't comment on mileage over 100k but I picked up mine about a fortnight ago and I've been very impressed.

To do that sort of mileage it would have lived on a motorway and be very under stressed

Not an XF but quite similar - I had a diesel S-Type and at 5 years old / 100K everything that could go wrong started to go wrong and by 150K it was in the knackers yard. Turbochargers, EGR valves, torque converter, gearbox, little electric motors, parking sensors, anything you can name. It then developed a mystery coolant loss.

All motorway mileage too, serviced on the button. Utter st.

At between 11 and 12K hes asking full dealer money for the car, so its no bargain in that sense, however if hes doing work that otherwise wouldnt be done to a dealer car i guess that helps.

They will drop, and continue to drop. Its maybe going to be worth £7,500 in a couple of years time.

Likewise, big bills are a possibility.
