I had my car (2.5 V6 with a pair of small turbos attached) on the roller a few months after purchasing it and it was down on power. Not surprising given its age. Had a boost leak test done afterwards from a fellow owners club member and then gave it a good service along with some upgrades. The same forum member then flashed a generic map which was developed by another club member over a few years and tested by many folk without any issues. Went out for a drive whilst he sat in the passengers seat tweaking the fuelling etc whilst monitoring the afr to make sure it was running right. It's been just under a year since that was done and I've had no issues with it. Will be getting it on a dyno in a couple of months to see what the power output is.
And lovely cars they are too - rare as rocking horse ___t !

Thanks for all these helpful replies.

Sounds like I need a boost leak check. The car feels like it runs out of pull quite early. I'd say around 5k and it's stopped pulling. Add this to the lazy lag low down and it's a very short power band. Maybe there's a leak.

Do your average garages do these boost leak tests or am I going to need a specialist.

Thanks again.

Might be a leaking dump valve, they are quite weak on the 1.8t

As others have said, I'd recommend your car gets a full diagnosis and you may even need to consider reconditioning the turbo if it needs it.

A map can truly transform a car and as long the car is standard an off the shelf map should be fine.

I've got a aftermarket ECU with multiple different maps which has been created specifically for the car and its superb although the costs are obviously significantly higher.

I'd say its absolutely worth doing but just keep in mind your clutch may suffer as a result.

A remap transformed my car, right up to the point it transformed the gearbox input shaft bearings into little metal filings.
