Hi, Being retired and spending time in France and Spain, we have had an absolute nightmare with car and motorcycle insurance. We even converted and re-registered our VW as a camper to get full cover. Can anyone help us to find fully comp insurance for a Caterham 7 with unlimited European cover please? Adrian Flux and Footman James can't help. Saga and others offer the cover, but not on a kit car, even if it is factory built. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks, Stuarth Collins said no, and so did MSM. If I drive the blxxdy thing back to the UK from Spain or France every 60 or 90 days some companies will give full cover. How utterly ridiculous is that!!!! I could write a book about the grief we have had over the past 2 years with insurance problems. It looks like we will have to revert to another bike. As we are not prepared to travel to the UK several times a year, the only option I can see is to cancel the policy every 90 days, with no refund and start another. Why doesn't a company offer this cover for kit cars? I know lots of people who could be interested.

How about registering a Caterham in France/Spain and insuring it at your address there? Are European insurance policies more continent-wide friendly?
May be a stupid question, I have no personal experience of registering a car outside the UK, sorry.

Also try A-Plan Thatcham. They cover a lot of Westfields (including mine).

Are you not UK resident then?

Hi, I am UK resident, but we don't want to drive the Caterham when we come back, and often don't come back for more than 90 days. I visited an Axa insurance office in France. I was told that their French policies only give full cover in the UK or Spain for a short period too. Registering a Caterham is difficult in France, although certain models I believe comply with the requirements. Our problem is compounded as our address in France is not permanent. I contacted Caterham Cars for help, but they didn't reply. A company called Bewiser offered full cover, so we sold our motorcycle to buy a Caterham. Before buying the car and a covered trailer, I contacted them again as a few months had passed. It was lucky I did, as they said that they could no longer offer this type of policy. I asked them for help, but they didn't reply.
I am one not to give up , but this one has got me. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Paul.
