Skoda Superb?
Seconded, I have one and it's epic.
Less than 70k miles and sub £7k? I had a look a prices a few months ago when I was looking for an estate and I don't think they were that cheap.

Edit: had a quick look and you're looking at more like £9k
I bought a 2009, 2.0, 38,000 miles, top model with every extra for £7500 from an independent dealer four months ago.

What does everyone think 'bout a Renault Laguna?
Laguna 2 terrible by most accounts. Laguna 3 pretty dam good. My business partner has one,and it's pretty good. (Don't tell him though). Build quality is up there with most things, nice to drive, and good design. Hate the bloody key card thing though. WTF is wrong with a key??
Paid 2k for an 08 plate 2.0dci with 100k on the clock. Superb buy.

I have a Mondeo company car (ex pool car so an 09 plate) due to be replaced soon...by another Mondeo.

They're absolutely huge inside, comfortable, well equipped and decent on fuel. It certainly feels its size so parking sensors are a must, but once moving it's fine.

This isnt quite an estate but I have a mk3 Seat Toledo Sport Special edition and it's awesome. Quirky looks which I didnt like at first but now I think it looks amazing and always gets admiring glances and great comments. 4 door with a totally massive boot and since other Toledo marks dont look anything like it, it ages well.

2.0 turbo diesel. Other mk3 Toledo versions available and could be anywhere up to about 4-5k now. Mine last year was 3.5k for 07 plate.

C250 cdi w/ AMG pack. Better ride than BMW, more power/tq., handling on par. Nicer place to sit, too.

Styling nicer than just about anything else in the class with the traditional luxury grill and AMG body enhancements (rare combo tho).

I think that whilst they don't have a great reputation round these parts, the Estates are pretty decent cars. Plenty of choice means they are cheap. You could do worse.
I've just got rid of mine, had it for 2 1/2 years - did 65,000 miles in it. 2.0CDTi VXLine Nav 140. We have 3 kids - 14-8,the 8 year old still has a booster, my eldest is now taller than my wife. They all fitted in with no complaints.

Car ran well, cruised fantastically, combined on average about 48mpg - that's realistic cruising speeds and town driving. Even with the VX wheels it wasn't loud inside, had loads of toys and very comfy, also never went wrong. It's only fault is that the roofline of the boot curves down, making the load opening a slightly odd shape, but loads of space inside the boot.

I'd get an A4. Love mine.

You'll get a well specced B7 for that with either the 2.0TDi or the 1.9. The 1.9 is slower but said to be more reliable.

My dad had two Laguna 3s, both 2.0DCi versions in Initiale trim. Covered over 150,000 miles between them with literally no problems on either car. Not the most responsive of cars to drive, but they were very comfy and the interiors were rather nice too.

Should be able to get a Passat for that. Not the fastest one, but they are still nippy enough even if you get the diesel 140...
