"What's that noise? That low rumble accompanied by the sound of pebble-dashing and the occasional loud backfire?
If you were Shed listening to Mrs Shed's morning wake-up routine, you'd be grimly familiar with it."

Haven't laughed that hard in a while - Pebble dashing and occasional backfires!!

Ad states that the chap has a baby on the way and needs something more practical...

What is more practical than this?!

I cant remember what power these have, but I'm pretty sure its more than 208 bhp. That's what the pre-facelift UK cars had - the JDM cars always had more.

The saloon JDM cars of that era had 240-260 ps ....I think the wagons had the same scratchchin

Mid 20s mpg is normal without a heavy right foot.
You're right, although I think the very early ones (circa '93) were 220. My '95 was 260, but IIRC the wagons of the same year were 240. Only UK models were as low as 208 though. This one's hideous though IMO.

Fantastic shed - I had a completely original series 1 wrx wagon for 5 1/2 years and loved it to bits - I sold it with 162k miles last year and miss it since. In standard form, they have loads of power , space and are extremely practical. As was said before, the chav image seems to be dying off these days thankfully as people move on away from them / as the cars die.

Not completely sold on reasons for sale. This seems like a good vehicle if you have a new baby given the estate layout. Not sure what else you'd get for a grand that was much better.

Mmmmm.....bit fishy. In a time long long ago, we upgraded our Corolla GTi-16 to an Impreza Wagon as we were expecting our 2nd kid and needed something practical. The Impreza was ideal.

Top shed though...love rare special editions and didn't know these even existed.

To balance the missing bull bar, the spare wheel carrier is missing off of the back too.

I love these (for reasons I myself don't full understand) but the missing bull bar and spare wheel are deal breakers for me.

This is a well-timed ad too, what with the clocks going back shortly, the minced pie ads already starting to appear and the prospect of several months' worth of slushy misery on the roads.
Err, it's September and 20 degrees outside? Slush most likely in February which is 5 months away. Or are PH using the marketing calendar that sees most of November and December as a snowy winter wonderland?

Anyway, always respected the Impreza and Legacy back in the late 90s. However, that was quite some time ago now and I'm not sure this particular example has dated very well. Surely there are more modern or desirable Scoobys for a bag of sand?

For example, not an Impreza but I'd rather have: 2002 Subaru Legacy

I love the car, but there's too much wky bks in the advert..

Very low milage(sic) - I'll be the judge of that. I wonder if the damage has been caused by the aforementioned bull bars and spare wheel holder?

Baby on the way and more practical car needed - More practical than a 5-door estate? He may as well just say he's been given a company car as many adverts I've been seeing recently.

I'm surprised the vendor hasn't also thrown in that the two-tone is (best colour). Topping off - selling on behalf of brother. In other words when it breaks down 10 miles down the road don't come crying to the advertiser as he's not the owner and has never driven it.

Only owned a few months, it's a practical 4wd estate but the reason for sale is a baby. Hmm. As much as I like it in theory, pass.

Plus the fact the vendor mentions it hasn't let him down in the months that it's been owned. If you decided to sell at the first news of a baby surfacing the future, that would make ownership just 3-4 months before selling. And why wait until you go abroad to then decide to sell the car?

It's an odd one.

For some reason every otherwise-sane couple in the land seem to think that the arrival of a single child necessitates the purchase of a mahoosive SUV. The days of families going on holidays in Minis, Escorts and Astras are long gone, it seems! It could, however, be not the pitter patter of tiny feet but the sound of an impending wallet-bumming bill.

People also like Isofix and a high NCAP rating when kids come into the equation.

Isofix is bloody brilliant.
