The sheer arrogance of VW is astounding. They lie and produce unreliable crap engineering for premium prices.Their board members receive mega pay deals despite the recent scandals. Now they partner up with an oil company to block others progress. What a bunch of Cowboys. I hope VAG get buried when the European round of litigation gets under way.

That's not going to happen. They provide too many jobs - the German government needs them and what the German government needs, the EU decides it also needs.

True. But hopefully people will start to lose respect for VAGina mobiles are drift away to other brands. Why anyone would wish to be associated with shoddy build quality, lies and corporate bullying is beyond me. Oh yes, shallow sheep like the interiors, so all is well hehe

We can only hope biggrin

What supprises me is that so many people on PH seem to forget the strength of the Oil and automotive lobbies and instread tell us how it's the lefties, the environmentalists and the corrupt scientists who are the really powerful ones. Yes it's the people who don't have lots of money that are really pulling the strings, whereas those that do are powerless to do anything about it laugh

400,000 pre orders for the new Tesla, that's promising.

I suspect if VAG had its way Tesla would be driven into bankruptcy like the Oil producers are trying to do to the shale prospectors...

Tesla are bankrupt, at least without mega-borrowing.

Anyone who thinks that Tesla is 'green' is fking deluded!

Musk took a green concept, luxury-ised out of the park and is building something that will save no planet. Especially given the strip-mining it takes to make the batteries and electronics.

Electric cars were envisioned as little eco-boxes, not high performance luxury barge-sized limos.

Oh I'm not defending the whole battery mining stuff, dreadfully un-green but 400,000 pre orders might turn the company right round, no?
I am just looking at it from the perspective of an oil burning vehicle producer that is in league with an oil giant. It's all business to them. Reminds me of Brandsons Virgin Airways and BA back in the day...

I don't think VW dealers are any better nor worse than other franchised dealers - it has more to do with the dealer group they belong to or the individual dealership.

Mine is near perfect. I shopped around on a Tiguan lease and then called them. Can you match the cheapest price ? Yes. Ok email the paperwork. 15 minutes later, car ordered.

Picked it up 2 weeks later, took 5 mn as I had asked them to chuck the keys and to leave me alone. Never heard from them since then (xmas). Don't see where the problem is.

Personally of the opinion that due to the Germans ultra reliance of diesel in the marketplace, nothing will happen with diesel pollution legislation until the German manufacturers have an alternative in place to take to market. Then it will get clobbered EU wide.

Cynical? Me? Never............

I've no idea how typical this is, but our guys (basically sales reps) in mainland Europe, including several in Germany, all seem to drive huge mileages. They buy their own cars and think of 100,000kms cars as being new and pay eye-watering prices for them, and then stick another 200,000kms on them over 2-3yrs. Doing that sort of thing in a petrol car is unthinkable in terms of the extra cost.

The board announced yesterday that the US compensation wouldn't be rolled out for EU.

Electric cars don't need to be little, and unlike ICE's they can be high perfromance and economical. The most powerful Teslas have a similar efficiency as the lowest power ones in like for like driving.

The "luxury barges" are what paid for the R&D on the model 3 which is a small to medium family saloon car. Musk has always been aiming for a mass market cars.

I am sure VW wont be offering hand outs. However if a mass tort litigator gets everyone in Europe riled up it might be different.

If the UK grid is to support charging of large EV's then it will need serious, serious upgrading.

If Teslas were 'green' then that guy wouldn't have had to pay $11,000 for emissions fines in Singapore!

A favourite wrinkle on this theme is how Gerhard Schroeder -- former Chancellor of Germany -- completed his leadership of one of the world's largest economies... and then promptly went to work for Vladimir Putin at a notable Russian petroleum concern.

That phrase from The Simpsons, "Excellent, Smithers," comes to mind.

VW never handed anything out in the US either. They were FORCED to. As they might be in Europe, if mass tort litigators get involved. The president is set. Thousands of people are unhappy. There is money to be made / extracted.
