It seems that the VW UK boss has said that the 2.0s will just need an ECU re-flash; the 1.6s will need new (or modified) injectors. He's also said that fuel economy will not be hit but didn't say anything about potential performance impacts.

I hope someone takes their car on a rolling road before and after so we can see if there's any difference in how the engine behaves. smile

VW haven't learned how to apologise either, as I've already said, last VAG vehicle in this household.

I would start by getting that stinking derv out onto the driveway. It wont do you much good starting it up in your living room.

Work collegue has a 2012 VW Golf 1.6 TDi bluemotion. It's due a recall. He's not happy as he is expecting to lose some performance and is worried that his already depreciating asset has just dropped a whole load more value than he was expecting.

When people purchased there diesels was bhp a major thing?

Was your criteria no diesel under 200bhp?

Now once vw remap these diesels what lack of performance would be acceptable , would 200 down to 190 be unacceptable ?

It would not be acceptable to me!

Yes, it looks like the 1.2 TDI EA111 engine has been dragged in as well now. I wonder about all the rest?

I think that engine was always likely to be implicated, since its just a 3-cylinder version of the 1.6 TDI from the same generation.

Wouldn't expect any others to be involved

We got our letter this morning, the wife has a 2.0l Golf.

What would happen if we didn't have it done ? MOT emissions failure ?

I can't see that people bought diesels for performance. Someone buying a Bluemotion is buying it for cheap VED, free London congestion charge and running costs surely? I would suspect that most have never used the performance they had available so won't miss it.

Quick question...when all the compensation claims start will it be the current owner of the car or the original buyer who will receive the money.

Does the official EU test include any wide open throttle or high revs? If not, then I don't see that they'd need to change anything in those areas of the map. If it does then they've got a harder task on their hands.

apologies if this has been asked before - has anybody tried trading in one of the affected cars recently?
Or anybody know the trade view on this? Would they probably refuse to take an affected car as a trade in until it becomes clear what the modification is and how it would affect the performance of the car?

How many cars will that add to the total under recall?

I theory, all owners could claim. They have been mis sold a product.

Basically VW can get ahead of this and offer owners a compensation - which will hurt their balance sheet

... or be sued in the courts for years and years and lose much of their future customer base.

A rock and a hard place.

I think a progressive company would choose the former.

There is no emissions test for diesels in the MoT, they only check for smoke.

I suggest everyone talking about compo and mis-selling should wait and see what the fix is first. I know, it's a crazy thought.

Exactly.

Most people are now only saying its a issue because there's a glimpse of some compensation.

Before they purchased the car bhp wasn't a factor it was all mpg and how cheap the car tax would be all of a sudden people cant own the car if its down 10bhp .
