VW in trouble over alleged US emission test manipulations
Discussion
It seems that the VW UK boss has said that the 2.0s will just need an ECU re-flash; the 1.6s will need new (or modified) injectors. He's also said that fuel economy will not be hit but didn't say anything about potential performance impacts.
I hope someone takes their car on a rolling road before and after so we can see if there's any difference in how the engine behaves.

Yes, it looks like the 1.2 TDI EA111 engine has been dragged in as well now. I wonder about all the rest?
I think that engine was always likely to be implicated, since its just a 3-cylinder version of the 1.6 TDI from the same generation.Wouldn't expect any others to be involved

Now once vw remap these diesels what lack of performance would be acceptable , would 200 down to 190 be unacceptable ?
I can't see that people bought diesels for performance. Someone buying a Bluemotion is buying it for cheap VED, free London congestion charge and running costs surely? I would suspect that most have never used the performance they had available so won't miss it.kambites said:

Does the official EU test include any wide open throttle or high revs? If not, then I don't see that they'd need to change anything in those areas of the map. If it does then they've got a harder task on their hands.apologies if this has been asked before - has anybody tried trading in one of the affected cars recently?
Or anybody know the trade view on this? Would they probably refuse to take an affected car as a trade in until it becomes clear what the modification is and how it would affect the performance of the car?

We got our letter this morning, the wife has a 2.0l Golf.
What would happen if we didn't have it done ? MOT emissions failure ?
There is no emissions test for diesels in the MoT, they only check for smoke. What would happen if we didn't have it done ? MOT emissions failure ?
I suggest everyone talking about compo and mis-selling should wait and see what the fix is first. I know, it's a crazy thought.

Yup... cos in the real world. Resale is already affected... indeed VW can't sell their own stock FFS !I suggest everyone talking about compo and mis-selling should wait and see what the fix is first. I know, it's a crazy thought.

Before they purchased the car bhp wasn't a factor it was all mpg and how cheap the car tax would be all of a sudden people cant own the car if its down 10bhp .
