VW in trouble over alleged US emission test manipulations

Fascinating for the euro 5/6compliance using ad blue but what about the euro 5 ea89 models....without additives, as many of them are.
The EA189 uses a NOx trap which requires a periodic rich cycle to clear and convert stored NOx to nitrogen. That means higher fuel consumption and more particulates to be trapped by the DPF.Mr2Mike said:

VAG utterly over-reached and deserve everything they get [1]. The additional EU cheating, CO2, customer interfacing just nailed it all home and since this came to light VAG will and have not seen another penny from this punter.
[1] which appears to be next-to-nothing from the EU.

Cheating the US tests and using their supposed green credentials to compete unfairly with indigenous US manufacturers, in the most litigious country in the world?
Sorry, I'm just a little fed up of every time I go on the BBC website there's a big red banner of "breaking news" of something that's actually not that important, albeit purely in my opinion.I'ts not just VW branded cars, the suit lists VW, Audi and Porsche jointly under the combined name of VW.
The cars affected and in the suit are:
Affected 2.0 liter diesel models and model years include:
•Jetta (2009-2015)
•Jetta Sportwagen (2009-2014)
•Beetle (2013-2015)
•Beetle Convertible (2013-2015)
•Audi A3 (2010-2015)
•Golf (2010-2015)
•Golf Sportwagen (2015)
•Passat (2012-2015)
Affected 3.0 liter diesel models and model years include:
•Volkswagen Touareg (2009-2016)
•Porsche Cayenne (2013-2016)
•Audi A6 Quattro (2014-2016)
•Audi A7 Quattro (2014-2016)
•Audi A8 (2014 – 2016)
•Audi A8L (2014-2016)

Not compared to the pollution caused by everyone buying unnecessary crap from China for Christmas. However there is money up for grabs so the laughable hypocrisy continues.
Agree, objectively there are certainly much worse 'eco-sins' on the planet. Still, the US will make maximum use of the events and has the laws to do so. Also will provide excellent bargaining material. Think they are pretty fed off we pester their internet giants so much with privacy laws and lame attempts to make them pay taxes. Could also help sell TTIP...But VW should have seen this coming. You don't try to pull stunts like this, as said previously here, in the worlds most litigious county. This will be expensive, and the US is just the start...
