Yey! A New Car Mag!! Modern Classics

It's quite a good mag, but I wish they wouldn't focus so much on estimated future prices. Every paragraph it seems has to end with a line stating "Buy one now before they're out of sight"
Well, it is called "modern classics" and we get endless threads on PH with people asking "how can I make money while driving a fancy sportscar"! The genuine answer is that you can't (or at least it's almost impossible) which would rather undermine their reason for existence. In my experience a "modern classic" is simply a used car whose seller has inflated price ambitions. PH classifieds are full of them, along with threads asking "why can't I sell my car?" to which everyone replies "because you're asking too much for it". Just because an immaculately restored car sells for £10k doesn't mean you can flog a ratty one for £9,500

In saying that, I'm getting the impression that the likes of Car and EVO have taken note of this publication, as they seem to be featuring a bit more of these sorts of cars lately

Good time to buy a 306 Gti-6/ Rallye after the article on them - can't see them staying cheapish much longersnotrag said:
This looks great right up my street. Copy ordered!
Read 2 of these now. fine for the price, a bit too keen on the fast stuff at the expense of everyday cars that many of us knew and loved,or hated, delete as applicable. Overall, worth cover price, not as self- congratulatory as some of the really glossy classic monthlies. And of course others which become so pompous that they start handing out "awards".Edited by Lester H on Sunday 21st August 20:56

For anyone interested, there's a new issue out - a yellow and red cover:
The 10 Investibles.
It also has VW Golf Mk4 R32 vs Alfa GTA, Pug 205 Mi16 and a few other things.
I picked it up at lunchtime but haven't investigated further....
Cheers,
Tom
Plus Montego Turbo, Cavalier Calibre and XR4x4The 10 Investibles.

Picked up a copy today and I just really enjoy this magazine, not bothered about all the money making malalarky I just enjoy the cars they have in it.
+1This magazine has found a real niche in the market. For ages I moaned that the classic car mags were stuck in a 70s time-warp with the occasional foray into 80s stuff, whereas EVO/CAR etc mostly concentrate on new stuff. Here is a mag featuring forgotten gems like the MG Montego Turbo, Alfa 145 Cloverleaf and next month, the Vauxhall Astra GTE 16v, which you just wouldn't find in any other mag. Also I like that the german car, i.e. Golf GTI, doesn't automatically win its category. Very refreshing indeed!!!

I was a bit surprised about the Calibre stats - wonder if they got them from howmanyleft site as they're not 100% accurateThis magazine has found a real niche in the market. HML says there were only 2 taxed in the first quarter, ie over winter, but 7 in the second quarter with 30 something on SORN.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
