Just caught up on this, as many have said, one of the best current car magazines. I’ve been a subscriber for over two years now, which is rare for me!

Last decent Magazine to focus on used cars that I remember was UCB (Used Car Buyer) in the early 2000’s.

Final edition arrived in this morning's post. Subscriptions to be transferred over to Car, from October issue, out around 09/09. Not a bad solution as far as I'm concerned, as Car was the first motoring magazine I subscribed to, having been a fan since my teenage years around LJKS, Barker then Bulgin, Lllewellyn (SP?) and so on. As my tastes & budget widened, I ended up subscribing to Evo, Octane & Modern Classics - a good spread of genre's, styles & publications I reckoned. It won't be the end of the world to return to Car for a few months, to see what's changed since I last dipped in, but fingers crossed something will replace the MC shaped hole in my bedside car p*rn pile. (Ok, bedside, half of the spare bed/office floor, occasional storage box & 30% of the garage. Christ I need a bigger house...)

To JJ, Nathan, Keith & the rest of the team - thanks - you should be proud of those years, because it really was a good idea done well. Very best of luck to you all & look forward to your next venture.

Cheers, CF

Very saddened to see the demise of MC.

As others had said it covered cars that were iconic from my youth and in many cases affordable today. I loved the lay out of the mag, the writing and the excellent photography.

This year has been very challenging for so many. In my own life my employer has changed my role twice as a result of COVID19, however I feel grateful they have a place for me and my future is secured. Unfortunately, so many are not so fortunate and this may well include the staffers on MC.

I too was a subscriber and I read the comments above about the transfer of my subs to CAR. I'm not a huge fan so may well cancel. I also read Auto Italia which I've taken for 17 years and the Alfa Romeo Owners Club Magazine.

Until MC arrived on the scene there were not any other car publications I wanted to spend my money on so I may just leave it as Auto Italia and the AROC Mag going forward.

Good luck to the Keith, Nathan and the team behind MC. You did a great job.

JJ and I are now both freelance.
Anyone need any copywriting doing?

I saw the latest issue on my doormat on Saturday and then read the letter that came at the same time telling me it would be the last issue.

Gutted. Loved the writing style, the cars and the quality of the photographs. I even enjoyed the recent article on a Xantia which did nothing but bring back bad memories of how one tried to kill me on the M4 back in the day at some unspeakable speed...

The team all did a great job and you should be proud of your efforts.

I'm gutted at the closure of MC. I have been automatically subscribed to CAR, which was a bit presumptuous of them - will be cancelling. I don't wanna read reviews of brand new Hyundais, but rather affordable modern classics!

I remember UCB. Wow, not heard that ina long time.

There was a motorcycle equivalent iirc too.

Never got MC, I’m a bit gutted to hear it’s gone.

Its interesting you mention CAR, a magazine that was dear to my heart in the 90s, but which sadly lost its way about 10-15 years ago. I can't help but think Bauer have cancelled the wrong mag. I mean if CAR was to close, would you have people queuing up like they are here to say how they miss it? Doubtful! Its a bit cheeky as well for them to automatically transfer people over to CAR. The two magazines are nothing alike. Similar thing happened in 1998 when good old EMAP cancelled Performance Car and merged it into CAR. Of course, the Performance Car element was virtually non existent but thankfully Richard Meaden and John Barker left within a couple of months to start EVO and the rest is history.

I wonder if something similar might happen with MC. If Retro Classics has gone as well, could the two writing teams join up and start a new magazine? Retro and Modern Classics anyone?!!

I've got the letter switching my sub to CAR (which I read every now and again on the Readly app).

I was tempted to get at least one physical copy and see how it went but the quick MC refund link is only valid for another week so I'm going to just cancel outright.

That’s rubbish, just received my letter, a brilliant magazine, well written, great articles and actual affordable cars, not the new hyper-car or an unobtainable Aston Martin from 1967.

‘Car’ holds zero interest to me, I have scanned it on Readly.

Hopefully there can be a combination of retro / modern classics, ‘young timers’ as the Germans say.

letter saying over to CAR mag. disappointed as have no interest in new cars which are soon to be electric boxes on wheels!

only just re-newed subs and the CC used has expired so assume will be more effort than just accepting the new mag and seeing how it goes

In related news, it seems several people have been made redundant from EVO and AutoExpress, so plenty of 'belt tightening' on other titles too.

Any details on who has gone at Evo?

I saw Vicky Parrott has been made redundant from Driving Electric too.

Very sad MC has gone - you guys made my buy a PS 2 with all the racing games I loved back in the day after your game console feature. I loved your BTCC super tourer features too.

The one I saw was Antony Ingram. I suspect they are looking to use more freelance staff to keep costs down.

I got the letter as well about transferring the subscription to Car. I just went onto the banking app and cancelled the Direct Debit. I also have no interest in Car magazine.

Hopefully eventually something else comes out along the lines of Modern Classics

I'm disappointed. Its the one car magazine that has kept my interest for more than ten minutes.
I started buying it as a traditional car show magazine, if we were camping out, MrsSE would get Performance VW and MC for me. I ended up subscribing a handful of issues ago.

No idea what to replace it with. PPC lost half its weight a few years ago, I have no idea which of Retro Cars/ Classic Ford* etc are still going... And no disrespect to Evo but I'm not that interested in loopy new cars with hundreds of horsepower any more.

  • Bought it religiously for ten years yet I have never owned a Ford ...

This is the direction that magazines are heading - the Editors buy features, photos etc from freelancers or syndication agencies, and put the content together.

There are very few "staff" writers or photographers these days.

Shame the magazine has gone, it was the only car mag that catered for my preferences / era (1980s, 1990s and early 2000s). Modern car mags I.e top gear focus solely on brand new cars and hyper cars, which are of no interest to me.

It was well put together, written and designed and enjoyable to read, you could see the effort put in. Would have been nice if it went digital only so something could have been salvaged.

Very saddened to see the demise of a truly great car mag. I remember thinking, prior to 2015, if only someone would do a magazine about classic-ish nice cars, not so old you can't daily run em, it would be an instant hit. And it was! MC was a breath of fresh air in a world of instant anonimity numbness.

MC was one of my two favourite ever car magazines, the other being Jalopy and Slow Car.

Well done Keith, JJ, Nayf and Simon. You seized the day.

You've done articles about most of the cars I've ever owned, and even printed one of my letters (a first for me). E36 328i manual, VW Scirocco Mk2, Clio 182, 130i and my present MR2 Roadster.

Every blessing to you all in your future endeavours.
