Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about...
Briefly on the looks - in 12yrs of ownership I am yet to be told that any of my 928s look ugly. Quite the opposite - even die-hard 911 owners have complimented them.
How is the long timing belt asking for trouble? Do you have any mechanical aptitude or you just like talking rubbish for the sake of it? So, Ferraris like the F355 or the 550 are also likely to be trouble? Or Audi V8s? Any car which is not maintained is asking for trouble.
The rest of the comments about Top Gear and restoration/running costs just confirm that you Sir, are a total dilettante when it comes to cars.
I have to say that I agree about the styling. I think the 928 is a very good car which is horribly ugly.Briefly on the looks - in 12yrs of ownership I am yet to be told that any of my 928s look ugly. Quite the opposite - even die-hard 911 owners have complimented them.

I think that that Koenig kit one above looks brilliant though. It sorts out the things I don't like about the 928 styling.

I just can't get over how ugly the thing is, inside and out. Yeah, it was very futuristic back in nineteen-seventy-what, but it looks horribly dated now... and the immensely long timing belt is asking for trouble.
the 928 clearly does not hold a candle to the styling of this beast..........which was also awarded the honour of the 'worst new car in England' in 1975

It is not Koenig - it is a Strosek - the only wide body on a 928, which actually looks good. The wheels are a work of art and very light - 3 piece, forged OZ Racing. I know, because I had a set -11" rears and 10" fronts....I think that that Koenig kit one above looks brilliant though. It sorts out the things I don't like about the 928 styling.

I liked the car for how it drove more than how it looked, but let's not compare chalk and cheese... it certainly wasn't the worst car in the UK in '75, I could highlight myriad worse, it was one of the best... won European Car of the Year in '63 too, if you give such things any weight....which was also awarded the honour of the 'worst new car in England' in 1975
I'm comparing the 928 (late models) with its direct rivals at the time. Stuff like the R129, the BMW 8-series and so on. Of the shovel-nose GTs of that era, the 8-series was vastly better-looking, as was the C4 Corvette.
I love the 928 and owned a couple of them for nearly 15 years. The styling was what initially appealed, and it was only as an owner that I came to appreciate the dynamic qualities. However, they both broke my heart and bank balance despite the services of a good local Indy. I've heard it all before about the values being set to rocket, but it's never happened, even now they just seem to be tracking general classic car values rather the outperforming.
For me, from an aesthetic standpoint would have to be an early model in silver with the Pasha trim.
In the mid '90's I had a friend who was a salvage dealer who had several tasty motors . He explained that his s2 was the most expensive car to run he ever had.he got rid after 6 months but still said it was one of the best cars he'd had

Since when has being honest equated to trolling?
There is a massive difference between being honest and factual and your opinion. If you've never owned one then your opinion doesn't matter at all.My S4 cost 55K in 1990 which was as much as an average house. Don't expect them to be cheap to maintain if the previous owners haven't kept up the maintenance, even things like the engine mounts are consumable items. A timing belt change is no more expensive on a 928 than it is on a modern car and I could say the same for any consumable service item when compared to a modern performance car.
Looks are subjective, I love mine including the pop up headlights and complete velvet red leather interior.

Ageless design? I parked mine at a local gardens recently and a guy asked me if it was a new car, obviously not a car buff but shows it can still look modern. He was amazed that mine is 25 years old and incidentally is also a Japanese import. It's my 4th and none of the previous 3 have been in such good condition so this one is a keeper.
That is lovely. Good choice in going for an import. It will undoubtedly be in better condition due to the Japanese climate. Surprised no one has mentioned the epic front seats of the 928, which manage to be both supremely comfortable and fairly supportive.
