what makes RWD better than FWD? I hear how it "a lot more fun", but why?
https://youtu.be/LHRaiBCeRRk?t=4m20sWhile I like the 2 Series for being less bloated than a work colleague's monstrous 420D X-Drive, BMW seem to have lost the plot in other areas of late!
Dial-up driving settings (why not just get it right in the first place FFS!), all turbo'd engines, flappy-paddle gearbox only on all M-models, synthesised exhaust noises - no thanks!
But I may be biased (and old) -

Just bought an M235i and it reminds me of the e46 3 series coupe in terms of dimensions.
I liked the dumpy looks of the original 1 coupe but the 2-series coupe seems a lot bigger to look at. Wouldn't mind one at all but a 1 coupe will probably be next after my Compact A case of BMW plotting car-market world domination by having a every body shape in every model in their line up I think (... see also Audi).
As an aside (and for fear of this being too specific, resulting in the thread being shunted into the BNW forum), has anyone tried / got a 228i? It seems a 'non-devils-fuel' economic alternative to a 235i and there seems to be a few about for reasonable money (.. probably because nobody wants them!). Of course the PH stock answer is "get the 235, you know you will regret it", but I'm interested in opinions.

My mother has a 220i Sport and I think it's a fantastic car, very comfortable, smooth for a 4 cylinder and has a fair turn of speed. I can imagine the 228i is a very similar idea but with the engine turned up to 11 - am told it has quite a pleasing rasp to the exhaust.
I still prefer my 1-Series Coupe as I think the looks just have the edge (looks more unique, whereas the 2-Series is a bit more corporate BMW, not that that's a bad thing), and of course, no 4-Cylinder will ever compare to the N52 6 Cylinder in the front of mine
On the Active Tourer, I'm not a fan - mainly due to the driven wheels - but in it's defence on the road it doesn't look quite so ungainly, and it's just a symptom of the German car companies copying each other in everything they do so they don't fall behind. The Merc B-Class has been a massive success on the continent, so BMW felt they had to respond. I'd rather they hadn't, but if AT sales mean they can continue to develop things like the upcoming M2 and M4 GTS, then I guess I can cope.

What are peoples thoughts on the 2 series?
Just bought an estoril blue 218d (the ever-so loved diesel) on a cracking deal, ended up being just short of 1k cheaper than my last car on insurance also!
Picking it up next week, can't wait! The reviews seem to be rather in favour of them.

I've had two. Had a 220d as a company motor for a few months last year and now have an M235i.
Both absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Even the diesel was nice enough to drive with it being low(ish) weight and rear wheel drive.
Interior is a nice place to spend time and munch the miles when you aren't attacking a B road.

My wife has one as a company car and I love it. It's only a 220d but I love the way it drives. Nice manual gearbox, handles really well and it's probably the best (or least bad?) 4 cyl diesel I've driven. Fairly quick, pulls from very low in the rev range but is quite 'revvy' for a diesel. I'd certainly buy one with my own cash, but it would have to be the 235i.
