Lovely to see the smoke trails from the Olympuses. Emissions only marginally better than an EA189...

Shame the video doesn't feature the infamous Vulcan howl. The link above of the missed approach, at Yeovilton, doesn't show that XH558 thereby scored her one and only 'kill' - one of the sheep at the downwind end of the runway expired! Here's her arriving at Dunsfold in August: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyyWrMGiV7g - and one cannot begin to imagine through the video just how chuffing loud that is!
Growing up in Winterbourne in the 60s and 70s I have a pretty good idea. hehe

Just near Filton? Think the Vulcans were built at Woodford, albeit with Filton-built engines.

They were the flying test bed for Concorde engines. To see the Vulcan pass over with an Olympus engine strapped to the underside is a fond memory. Deafening but fond.

I apologise in advance for taking the liberty of rolling out one of may favorite old jokes.

What has Spock and the runway at Port Stanley got in common?

They've both been fked by Vulcans.

That's one of the best-looked-after, XL426. Kept live and does fast taxi runs.

Only the one still flies, and that will land for the last time nine days from now. Southend seem to be keeping the corrosion at bay effectively enough, to the CAA's satisfaction and that of the design authorities.

I expect a lot of people on here will have seen it already but just in case - there's a fantastic Channel 4 documentary called 'Falklands' Most Daring Raid' which is about the one and only combat mission a Vulcan ever flew - can't recommend it enough.

Operation Black Buck. The aircraft which dropped the bombs, XM607, has been rotting away outside at Waddington for many years. The pilot, Martin Withers, is one of XH558's pilot roster.

Isn't it funny how the Avro has completely stolen the show from the Aston.

Of course, AM's Gaydon base was formerly a V-bomber airfield.

I suggest that the Vanquish replacement should, in honour of Frederick Handley-Page and Mr Gauntlett, be named Victor.

AM might find that GM still owns that trademark?

I was there too, great day perfect conditions.

First time I'd seen a Vulcan and it seems it will be the last. The first thing that struck me was the sheer size of the thing and then came the sound which was just amazing, easily the best sound of the day for me.

Only for just 3 years though with Vickers Valients.....as an operational bomber base.
It then became home to the OCU for the Valiant and Victor for a few more years.

Hmm, the thought had vaguely occurred to me, wonder if GM are still thinking of doing a Vauxhall Victor, or if they'd be prepared to let the name go...
